2004--->2005
IMO It has been a really good year, better than 2003. There were lots of good comedy and drama videos, but kinda weak in the action category. Many great new creators, lots of people have driven attention to their work. Technically speaking there were few really impressive vids, but not of such magnitude to make everyone go "ga-ga". Anyway:
What do you expect from 2005? Is the bar gonna be raised even higher this time? Are you going to work harder? Improve your editing? etc.

I'm there my man. 2004 was a great year from me after 2003 being somewhat of a let down. Having only one hit the Shrine of the Goddess series then and this year having 3 great videos in my opinion has diffidently giving the determination to improve in 2005 and try to make the Otakon finals again. As for other videos I've seen. They were amazing this year for my 1st Outlaw Anime Club AMV Contest. The videos were just great and a hard contest to call. Otakon had a great Comedy and Upbeat/Rythm this year, of course Romance was nicely done (Vlad, Dwchang, Atchang) Tough competition this year. 2005 for me is going be a side of my videos you haven't seen before. I'm going be doing videos that are uncharacteristic to the ones I have done. You can expect at least 2 action videos, 1 upbeat/rhytm, and 1 dramatic/comedy video. That's right a dramatic comedy as weird as it sounds. Hey Fighting For Your Love was a Romantic/comedy so why not. I can't wait for 2005 to come around. As for 2004 its been an awsome year at least I can say for myself and this will be an amv year I'll remember.

Well, to be honest I don´t expect to much in cases of my own editing, I´ll Improve but it´s a slow process. Maybe my next Archetypes will be a bit more successfully. And someother videos may be a bit better tahn my old ones, but I won´t have to much time for editing in upcoming year
.
Regarding other creators:
I want to see Rubyeye´s new video damnit.
And I hope for some of Bote´s new stuff as well.

Sorry for the double post. 2004 as for Starwind/Hawking Productions and Outlaw Productions they didn't produce much and was mostly a solo year. 2005 however 2 of the 4 videos are going to be production videos. One will be an Outlaw Productions (Skyshroud, needhelp and me.) The other video will be a Starwind/Hawking Productions, Outlaw Productions, and Angel of Tokyo Productions. (Skyshroud, needhelp, Jim Hawkings 21122, Toji Fujawara, and of course me.) Which this year is going to be interesting, I haven't worked on a video with my friends for a while so its been a long time coming. I hope every has enjoyed my solo projects this year and other videos we've created since 2003. Until next time this is Gene Starwind 21122 saying "You Better Get Ready! For 2005 that is."

I think you can't really compare 2003 and 2004. 2003 definately had a lot of the huge reactions to a few videos, such as Euphoria, where as 2004 has a lot of medium-sized reactions to numerous videos. However, this year we definately got a larger quantity of good AMVs (in my opinion, at least), although maybe the quality went down from the previous year. It's all about how you percieve it.
2005 is definately going to be a fun year for all of us, since I know a lot of anime that people have been wanting to use will finally be released here, such as Kodomo no Omocha, Full Metal Alchemist (well, legit anyways), and even though I'm the only person excited about it, Cyberteam in Akihabara ^_^ We'll see how things go.

This was a great year for Berserk vids, so I can't really complain
Still, as Bote posted, action felt slightly dry, most likely due to the lack of Hypeo vids and the limited releases from people like Tsukin or Fluxy in the genre. Still, it wasn't a travesty or anything, and it allowed many newer people to emerge and improve in the catagory because there weren't all these big, already established creators constantly releasing new stuff to overshadow them. Also this year definitely had it's gems from older creators (especially DarkXPower with the return of OV). So I'm not calling it a bad year.
As for drama and comedy, especially the latter, this year was on par with or surpassing 2k3, just look at AWA masters for evidence. The other big thing this year was the rising amount of multi-editor projects. In that respect, 2k4 felt like a transitional year, in which people were figuring out what could and couldn't be done successfully. I think 2k5 will see fewer attempts at multi-editor projects, but those attempts will be far more successful and the products much more clean.

The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

I think that 2K4 was the year of the Multi-Editor Project. you had the completion of Animix, the always-excellent DDR Project's 4th (and final
) itineration, the Retro Videogame Project, my own Children Project, and Reflections of Style.
As far as personally, my greatest achievement was the completion of The Children Project, and I continue to be amazed at the good reactions it gets. My own AMVs (3 total plus Iron Chefs) were okay, but nothing near what I'm capable of. Hopefully I'll be able to start next year with a bang...

The creation of a seperate forum definatly saw a spike in the multi-editor project arena. It also changed the nature of those projects. Instead of a few very prestegious projects made mostly by the best and most well known editors, you had a lot more ordinary editors trying their hand at it. And least that's my view.dokool wrote:I think that 2K4 was the year of the Multi-Editor Project. you had the completion of Animix, the always-excellent DDR Project's 4th (and final) itineration, the Retro Videogame Project, my own Children Project, and Reflections of Style.
And don't forget the instrumental videos! With a new video category that makes them easy to find, there has been a marked increse in the number of instrumental videos being produced. The competition in the instrumental category at AWA 10 Pro was intense. Add to that the Instrumentality: Animasia project which is essensially done (release delayed slightly for encoding/compatibility issues

(Boy, we all sound like a bunch of sportscasters. AMV announcer... I smell a carrer oportunity!

I personally think 2004 was the balance amvs needed editing wise over the big effects boom that was 2003.
There were tons of great videos with simple editing and simple effects this year that really caught my attention. The multieditor projects were very good this year.
The best part about 2004 is that it was the first year I could finally go to an amv contest and not feel bad for not entering
