AMV: Just effects?

Post by x0chiaki0x » Wed Oct 13, 2004 7:23 pm

I've been seeing lots of AMVs lately, to get mine hyped up and ready, and I've seen hidden vids that were awesome even without the flashy effects. Can a video be awesome even if it was just fades and cross dissolves? Or does it have to have an effect to make it great?

just another stupid question asked by another stupid n00b

There's a whole movement of editors that keep calling for a 'return to oldschool', really - and some that, like me, are too dumb/lazy to do effects. And there are, fortunately, plenty of viewers who are willing to appreciate simpler-looking vids of such sorts.

I wouldn't worry. I don't think these types of videos will ever go away
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Just to clarify.

There are newbie editors who can't restrain the urge to dive into the Effects folder, and there are experienced editors who can make a vid chock-full of effects and use them in a way that wows the audience over (your VicBonds, ADs, Aluminum Studios, dozens of other editors, etc)

By the same token, there are new editors who can't seem to string a basic edit together. However, there are other editors who can use only really simple types of edits, like cuts/fades/speed changes, but use them in an incredibly effective way. I think Wonka and Beowulf are incredible examples of this. Look at Wonka's new Berserk video and Beowulf's 'Hail to the Thief' and tell me where the plugins are.

I've heard of the famous Aluminum Studios and their work, They must be famous for being known for their AMVs like that. I will take a look at Wonka and Beowulfs videos when I have the time, seems like they left quite the impression on you though.

Aluminum Studios is actually only one guy, and he's got a lot of, um, popular friends around here.
