QuickTime Survey

Post by Red Wolf » Sun Sep 15, 2002 9:11 am

This is mainly for the PC people out there. When you run into an AMV you want to view but is in QuickTime format:

How many of you skip it?
How many already have QT for AMV viewing?
How many have or would download QT (free download) to view an AMV you're interested in?

I have a new compression software which allows me to make a lot higher quality video at a smaller file size but it is QuickTime compression only (been using MPEG-1 thus far for cross platform). I would like to use it for my current and future videos but I wanted to see how the PC population dealt with QuickTime files on here.

I dont like using quicktime at all because it's too invasive. I can't install it easily without it wanting to take over various aspects of my browser.

I try to use quicktime as little as I possibly can. I actually never have it installed - I just install it when I really really need it because it's not worth the hassle.

So, yeah, I would skip it.

My sister downloaded QT on our PC coz she wanted 2 watch an AMV + I have to admit it is useful to have it just in case u come across 1's that u like that can only b played in that format.
It's best 2 have window's media player, real player + QT. If it doesn't work on 1 it's bound 2 work on another.
hiya all if u dont like this website then go to www.geocities.com/queen_of_the_futre/Annas_GW_page.html or:

I don't bother installing quicktime anymore for the same reasons as AD. It's just too much of a clunky intrusive program. I mean, while RealPlayer is annoying as all get out it's at least semi stable and performs alright. Quicktime is slow and klunky, and I have no desire to install it on my machines.

If you want super good compression cross-platform use MPEG1 or MPEG4 thru XviD or DivX5. From what I've seen Quicktime's "MPEG4" is not really compliant and will not play on hardware MPEG4 cards whereas MPEG4 streams generated by XviD or DivX5 will.

Course with the recent discovery that using the DivX5 validator stuff you can get XviD AVI files running on Windows, Mac, and Linux, I'd just go with XviD AVI files for simplicity. You can always pre-validate your files and make them downloadable.

I have the free version of Quicktime but really hate bringing it up since it seems to crash my system quite a bit. The only time I bother with .mov's is if it something I just HAVE to see, which isn't very often.

I have QuickTime 4. I use it to watch media streamed on demand. If you want to provide AMV for streaming in QT format then by all means go ahead, I'm OK with it. Otherwise I prefer AVI MPEG 4/2/1.

I sit there, realize it's quick time, grumble a lot, watch it once and close it and then go complain some more.
