Where does an 11+ minute AMV rate on the ambition scale?

Post by inthesto » Sat May 22, 2004 12:13 pm

I've got one an idea for a song that's of those "two tracks, one song" deals, and when the time is added up, I've got 11:12 to deal with.

Now, I'm really hyped up because I think I've got an awesome idea for this song, but at the same time, I might be about to bite off more than I can chew.

I think that unless you're a master creator you're going to struggle to hold viewers' attention for that long. That said, if you think you've got a good idea, go for it and good luck to you :D

first the obligatory comment : your dreaming, wake up

now for the more constructive comment : the problem with longer amv's is that its hard to keep the viewer interested for such an amount of time. also, it would make a bad impact if ya simply switched from one song to another, you would need to mix the songs togeather a bit, and throughout the whole piece, not just at the end of the first, as that woent be much beter that simply ending one song and starting the second.

iether way, i wish ya (and anyone doing something this long) luck

Like the others have said, it's a very difficult task to attempt to keep a viewer's attention for that long. That aside, it'll also make it harder on you, because the longer the vdeo is, the more you'll be struggling to find good, usable footage. If you're prepared for that situation, then by all means go for it, but just keep in mind what you're gonna be up against.

let the viewer know that they're in for a time investment.

If it shows at a con, and people don't know how long its going to be, they're going to get tired quick and remember the video as "just plain long" (unless its a one anime video and they're a diehard fan.)

Everybody's talking about holding the viewer's interest, but you didn't ask about that. Are you more concerned about that, or are you more concerned about being able to make an 11-minute video?

Personally, I say if you want to do it, then do it. See how it turns out. THEN worry about what anybody else thinks, if ever. But if you like the idea, then do it.

It seems to me that making a longer video is easier then a shorter one. Generally, the longer the song is = the slower the beat is = the less cuts you have to make = longer captures.

Yes, back in my noob days, I was all set to make a 24 minute AMV to 'meditation' :P. Thank god I snapped out of that.

I had to review a video that was 10 minutes long. It was a free op.

Now, the video was good. It was really good.

But the sheer fact that it's ten minutes long is horrible.

Thus, don't make the 11 minute video.
