Question about an idea.

Post by ReannaKing » Thu May 20, 2004 1:53 pm

Well, there's a video I want to do. The thing is, it's been done before. Many times. The thing is, I think I can do better. Now, I came up with the idea on my own-- it just turns out I'm not the first person to think of it.

If I honestly think I can do better, do you think it's generally okay for me to go ahead and make the video?

yep

with art, there's no "you can't do that." there's a question of how well it will be received though. if it's really been beaten to the ground, don't expect a lot of praise for originality.

Yeah, I'm ready for a low originality score.

People should really grade originality based on mostly scene use with some effect creativity and theme.

Grading originality based on how many times a video has been done is bullshit. :x

Personally if I have an idea and find out its been done. F*ck it. If I can do it better who cares. Or if I can do it different.

To paraphrase; Art is for the artist the audience be damned. (Okay I do read opinions, but I mostly disregard the score as people don't always notice subtle yet important technique use. And some don't have enough of a clue to effectively score a video. Though I haven't encountered a person like that personally.)

Let's face it a lot of people do Linkin Park. Only about 1 out every 25 do it right. If I downloaded more Linkin Park videos I image that number would grow even smaller.

Do the idea and don't even think about those who have done it before.

Let's face it, would you download the first video or the best. I think the best would be the most worth the download time. Besides some big fans will download both.

I dunno. Generally I'm against doing that. I finished a video to 'My Immortal' about Tai trying to protect his little sister Kari, and I went to upload it. Surprise surprise, I searched to see how often it had been used, and more then a 100 results came up. That video went out the window.

Yes. Do it. You are making it for yourself not for scores etc. Anything you want to make... make it.

Do what you want to do. As long as you're comfortable doing something you know has been done before then go for it. I, and probably some others, may not like it but hopefully you aren't making videos to please me so what does that matter?
