Weird emails from users of this site
First off I apoligize if this is OT for this forum, Just move it to the appropriate one if it is, But it could potentially be of some importance, since it could be the doing of a virus.
I am getting random emails to my address bakadeshi@aunmv.com from users that appear to be from this community, since its stuff like Aerith@somedomain.com and 321studios@somedomain.com (random examples of some of the senders, not real addresses), and this is the only place I actyually use that address. Its just empty emails set with high priority that just says stuff like "Important Document" or "Important Bill!" and such in the body of the email. I even got one from myself to myself (lol) doesn;t have any attachments, so it doesn;t seem to be sending viruses attached to itself.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is receiving spam like this one. It seems to have sniffed addresses from this forum system and using them to send out junk to random people. Doesn't appear to be harmfull... yet, but it is a minor anoyance.

Viruses and the like often copy addresses you've mailed to before. It's not the fault of the people whose addresses are so copied, or the site.
Just, like...delete them. Why are you even opening them?
...
Also, don't run with scissors and don't drink drain cleaner. And porcupines are not toys.

lol I know this, was posting it primarily as a warning. It is not my first day on the internet ;p I am infact a computer technician and know how to deal with viruses (Hence why I opened them, I am not stupid ;p), I was just: A) wondering if anyone else here was getting the same thing, as I was trying to trace the origin of the problem, and B) warning people here incase they have the virus (if its a virus) on their system doing these email sniffs and sending out blank emails to people.
Also, When your getting +-10 of these every day, it is a bit of a pain to keep deleting them.

Hey,
It might be helpful for you to make a list of the email accounts that has sent you virus emails. This will hopefully help your plight by allowing infected members to know their computer is breached, thus allowing for damage control, fewer net traffic, and a brighter day to all concerned.
Lyrs.
P.S. Since you aren't on any of my email accounts, I know my PC isn't a zombie yet.

Use an email program that isn't a piece of shit. Using Outlook is just inviting viruses into your system. I use Thunderbird.bote wrote:I'm getting a bunch of such e-mails mainly from ".it" mails. WTF? And 2 got into the system (infecting .dll's) without me even opening them, so deletion doesn't help a bit in this case
. Good thing I always update my Antivirus.
And google gmail is *really* nice. Best free email provider I've come across. Let's hope it doesn't deteriorate after it goes public
