Keep in mind that my system was near top-of-the-line no less then a year ago, so i am hardly hurting for raw computational power and general system resources to draw from for this, or any other process for That matter.
they'll play One way but not another. explain please.

why is it many videos, most notibly many of the new(er) ones will play just fine IF played from anyware saved on my local hard drive. Yet, when attempting to play from the CD that i burned many to i end up with choppy results that, frankly sound like crap.

depends. is the cd scrached ? how much memory buffer does the disk have ? whats the bitrate of the file ? whats it encoded it. a freind of mine has a wierd problem. he can play decent qualty anime avi's (thier about 200MB/epp) fine of cd's, yet mp3's sometimes go chopy.
and obviosly, this is something for the video hardware/software section

bum: no. completely new scratchless CD(s), and as for the rest of your questions, i have no idea as to the answers to any. =\
Seki: being a bit more of a techie then most (to understate things), yes that notion had occured to me as well. HOW-ever, that greatly depends also on the available system resources of wich i have plenty of mostly if not totally negating noticable lagg for anything but the more intense of resource hogging apps and games.
Ergo, i speculate as to wether this could be due to the codec used in a lot of todays vids. or possibly some other unknown reason. hence, the question. soooo, no. the answer is most decidedly NOT so odvious. =|

mayhaps. as far as i am aware it is,but ill do a double check. thanx for the tip.Maybe the Ultra DMA is not activated on your CDRom Drive ?
using software drivers not made for the hardware is at best problematic Corran. such a process as you describe i can forsee a marid of potentional and possibly far reaching problems for. ergo, to that end ild much rather not go. thanx anyway.
update your drivers and perform a full system recovery. In that order.
they are, and no. that "advice" is rather pointless as the machine would then be right back to ware it was. or is that the point? giving me pointless, time wasting advice i mean.[/i]

My suggestion is to experiment with different players and see which works best for you.
He said using DVD player programs (PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc.) to play video files on CDs. Nowhere did he say anything about drivers.
