Poll: Using fansubs for AMVs
Allright, I just finished watching my favorite fansub and now have an idea for an AMV. I know there are several disadvantages to using fansubs, such as:
1. tenchically it's against the rules here
2. lower video quality in the finished product
3. subtitles
so, what should I do? Here are options I have considered: (before you mention it I refuse to buy bootlegs)
a. make the AMV anyway, and upload it
b. make it, but don't upload it 'till I can remaster it with the region 1 release when it comes out
c. try to get the Japanese release, and use that (if you suggest this, could you please tell me where I can get them online that's reliable and preferably cheap?)
d. wait for the region 1 release (I don't like this idea)
The show is Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, if that helps, and I do have some money saved up which I could spend on the Japanese release
I appreciate your input. (is that an odd way to say it?)

I'd say dew it, but maybe I'll get shot.
...Maybe not. So I would say do it. I don't think the quality concern is as much as some perfectionist types make it out to be.
If you CAN somehow get a better release now, by all means. But if you can't, and still feel the urge to do it now - do it now.
Let us trust the benevolence of creative impulse.

I say make it and host it on your own webspace until you can get the DVDs and remaster it.
Normally I'd say just crop the subtitles, make it, upload it, and hope nobody notices that you broke the rules... but now that you've told everyone that you're using fansubs, uploading a fansub version is probably not such a great idea.

But you need to learn how to clean up your footage a LOT and get good at it before you even think of doing your video.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

Since when is using fansubs breaking a rule? Or how about using footage from another amv? Or using things that technically aren't anime?
Funny, <a href=http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... =17794>one of the must downloaded videos on this site does all three, I'm wondering why it's not banned.

using downloaded footage is breaking the rules, but as far as I know it hasn't been enforced, even when it's obviously a fansub.
...and it's not licensed yet ...which normally wouldn't bug me, 'cuz I wouldn't want high-quality footage for anything, but in this case
...I'm leaning towards b or c. I intend to make it, and preferably soon.
