What's in your...[computer configuration talk]

Post by OmniStrata » Tue Apr 13, 2004 9:32 am

wallet? j/k...

What's ur computer's newest and oldest hardware/software configs? I want to see what other people use and maybe figure out where to go next concerning my editing utilities...

Currently, "Problem Slayer"s newest set up is...

AMD 2Ghz 2400+ XP Processor
1024M DDR RAM
GeForce FX 5200
120Gig HD of dewm

Adobe Premiere 6.5 [shoot me]
" After Effects 6.0 [I think...]
Virtual Dub with AVS extras
SmartRipper
Windows XP

I've been following the guides quite well up to now and considering my "first and oldest" editing system consisted of...

Intel Pentium 2 300Mhz [shudder]
64M SDRAM
Nvidia TNT2
8Gig HD of Hell

Premiere 5.0
Virtual Dub
Unlicensed Digisubs
Unused CD-ROM drive [lol] [yep, no dvd rom]

I'm hoping this thread helps people know that even the shitty hardware [yes, Full Throttle was edited on the later crappy config] can turn out non-shitty anime music videos...

Oh yeah, which amvs did u make with those said configurations ^_^

Hmmm:

I was on
The "(closet)monster" (2000)
dual p3 800
120 gb HD
30 gb main HD
512 sd Ram
Geforce3

Premier 5.0 -6.5
smartripper
vurtualdub
and a combo dvd drive

Aptly named for it was in a walk in closet that had a power jack installed. All the ones that are on the .org currently were made on it.

My newest machine: "Machine"(2004)
2.6 P4
1 gig DDR Dual Ch.
the 120 & 30 from above and an added serial ata 120
Geforce fx 5950

premier 6.5
smartripper
gordian knot
and a lite-on dvd burner

and still not enough dvd's d@.@b

I will have a Vid ready from this one soon. :)

and Cerebram
my dual g5 Macintosh
Final cut pro 3
(three currently cooking on this machine...)

And no its not the system or the machine that makes you good, its the imagination that gets you there.

I thought mine was pretty darn small.

But generally speaking, 40GB of mine are taken up by crap anyways... and yet I still manage to get around - even though I only used HuffYUV editing until very recently!

"Mycroft (Mike)" is the only computer I've ever done AMVs on.

Model: eMachines T2080
Purchased July 2002

Hardware:
1.67GHz AMD Athlon XP 2000+
80 GB Maxtor hard drive
Added about half a year ago: 80 GB Western Digital hard drive (affectionately known as "WD-80")
512 MB of DDR RAM, 32 of which are used for the video
Integrated video (S3 ProSavage DDR or somesuch)
Integrated sound (VIA/Realtek/Avance/whoever AC97); added a Sound Blaster Audigy a few months ago
CD-RW drive
DVD-R drive
3.5" floppy drive
17" flat-screen CRT eMachines monitor

Relevant software:
Adobe Premiere 5.1 (until last December)
Adobe Premiere Pro (since last December)
VirtualDubMod 1.4.11
TMPGEnc Plus 2.521.58.169
AVISynth 2.0.6 and all the associated plugins (I'm reluctant to upgrade)
XviD-04102002-1 _ALPHA_ Release (Koepi's latest unstable build... I guess it's version 0.4ish. Is 1.0 REALLY that much better that I should upgrade? (You can tell I'm governed by inertia...))
DVD2AVI 1.76
SmartRipper 2.41

My first AMV system was: (It works, kinda)
P2-266
64MB ram
S3 Virge (ie just plain sad)
4GB HDD (you can see where this didn't work)

Currently: (The Dust Bucket)
AMD K6-2 500
256 MB ram
NVIDIA TNT2 hybrid cap-card
Whatever onboard video came with the thing
10GB System drive
40GB Storage drive

In a matter of weeks...
Athlon 3200 XP
512MB DDR
Some generic GeForce 4 card that's probably everywhere
120GB HDD
I'm thinking about calling it Nah_Vee or something like that

Not sure how much difference having a not-so awesome video card is going to make... I'm not much of a PC gamer (I actually spend an awful lot of time poking fun at them)
