Downloaded footage

I've been looking over some of the music videos on the site, and quite a few of them quite obviously use downloaded footage.

Is the no downloaded footage thing taken as more of a command or a suggestion?

Depends on the anime. Also depends on when the video was made. Thing is, there's no really good enforcement mechanism for that rule.

So is fansubbed stuff that hasn't been released yet in the US usually acceptable?

Well, yeah. Most people here don't import R2's, so there frequently isn't any other option.

Besides, some members here are also fansubbers.

Yes, it's a guideline and not a rule, but I think the general quality concern + subs are usually enough to keep people off it.

It's really something you shouldn't do, but if you do, I don't believe you'll be banned or otherwise persecuted.

It's a "rule" but it's not enforced. One day it may start being enforced. Who knows. But as of right now, nothing is gunna happen to you. But fansubs really suck as far as the resulting quality of your amv goes...

Just crop off the bottom section of your entire video, and pretend it's in widescreen. :P
