Stolen Video question..

Post by AmazonMandy » Sun Apr 04, 2004 12:29 pm

I was wondering just HOW FAR someone is allowed to copy someone elses video before it is a violation of AMV.orgs rules. There is a reason i ask this:

I have always liked the video "A Clash and a Promise" by The Great Wang (one of the MANY i have kept because i like them)...today i just downloaded a new one called "Liberi Fatali" by VvpsykoprincessvV...and its basically the same thing. She used the same song, same footage, even used them timed in most of the same places. Its disgusting.

I know I would be really upset if someone did that with one of the AMV's i worked hard to make...is there anything that says this kind of thing is a violation, or does it have to be EXACTLY the same vid, jsut uploaded under a new name? Personally i think her whole account should be deleted, but maybe i am just over sensitive about copycats.

Yes, Phade does have a rule about people copying another creator's work and calling it their own.

However..
I just finished watching both of these videos and really don't see where you are coming from. Yes the both use the same source and yes some scenes used were the same. They were however placed in totally different places and used in different manners. Both sources are very popular for AMVs. That fact that some of the same scenes are used in both videos is not enough to call a video like this foul play. The scenes that were similar were some of he most over-used scenes in the series. Spike falling from the window, the fights with Vicious, that certain someone getting shot; I've seen them used over and over in many other videos. The same goes for other series, dancing Vash, Asuka's batle in End of Eva... This isn't someone's attempt to rippoff another creator. Besides, Wang's video is much better anyways. :P

This on the other hand is a ripoff.

Here is the original vid.
Jamming With Edward

I don't know why the video is still on the donut seeing as it clearly violates Phade's rule #2 and 9 of the The AnimeMusicVideos.org Code of Ethics. It is as though the person put Caliet's video on the timeline and edited right on top of it.

Hmmm, yea I just watched the 2 vids side by side and they are totally different. They just happened to use the same anime and music. Nothing wrong with that.

And VvpsykoprincessvV it's a new member , it's just impossible try to say to all new members "Hey before you upload your vid do a super search to check if have any other vid with same anime/song combination".

I did that mistake once , and if that member should be banned , uhh i think that i have to be banned too

You'd have to ban half the database.

I had a video idea back in 2000. Then in 2003, someone made it and posted it here. I guess if I get the resources avalible to make it, and post it here, i'll get accused for copying. Also ive seen over hundreds of naruto videos done to the same song + same style. Not to mention many others. Go under Super Search, search for naruto, and find the same songs used by multiple creators. Then make sure you accuse them of all copying each other.
