The Instro-Project
That's right I'm a leading up a Multi-editor project starting April First
(April Fools Day) using the song an instrumental remix of a Few of My Favorite Things by Andre 3000. If anyone is interested let me known through PM or Email. The project will try to express peoples feeling toward
there favorite shows as quickly as possible and then link them together
through the beats. So far I have 3 people in this project as of right
now and we will increase the # of slots/ number of different editor slots
by the number of particpates. Ie we have not hacked it into peices
before starting the project. But we will when we find out how many people
want to join up. The MP3 (can be found on limewire) if someone wants
give me FTP space that would be appercated sense. I'm a poor-ass
college student. IF not I will arrange AIM delivery of the tracks and add
the peices together that way.
Specs: 29 FPS
Video: Preferable huffy.avi
Tracks: Will vary
Content: Anything short of Prongraphic or Overly Violet

I'd join, but I'm afraid I might not be able to make the proper commitment and do it all on time...

Anyway, it might be easier to get people to join if you did "hack the song to pieces". That way, people have a better idea of how much time they would need (both in terms of video and real).

Hm....
Well, I'm thinking that you should try to get a variety of people involved. This also extends to a variety of experience and skill levels. I'd say have some 10-12 second tracks (or maybe as short as 6-8) for the newbies. Then have some extra-long tracks (30+ seconds) for the very experienced. Then maybe most of the rest somewhere in the middle.
Of course, that working is contingent on having enough people.

I would suggest to cut it not by time, but musically as far as possible. As in, parts of the song; for instrumentals, this is especially crucial. You do want to preserve cohesiveness.
Just try and see how many separate musical segments it can divide to. It's not that hard, and I've done this myself recently for several instrumentals (though I'm not launching a project yet). This often translated into a fairly tolerable half-minute segments which are distinct from each other
