Yet another "song recs needed" thread...

Last night I got to pondering working with split screen video for an amv for Hoshi no Koe (aka Voices of a Distant Star), as it could be an interesting way to deal with the simultaneous-yet-not events that the characters go through. Or starting as one, breaking into two, etc... Not sure about that. But that wasn't what I came in here for.

I'd like some recommendations of songs/composers that may fit the mood of the anime (no lyrics, please). At one point I was considering part of American Beauty's "Plastic Bag Theme" for the stillness and melancholy which is so present in the anime, but I've pretty much dropped that.

Any suggestions of directions to look in?

Anything by "Bond", a few things from "Era"...

... Although those bands are european, and some of them have lyrics.. (But in a differen language! Ha! ... Usually French...)
