Matching (or not) sets - input?

Post by SarahtheBoring » Mon Jul 14, 2003 5:39 pm

Okay, putting aside the fact that mine will suck, 'cause who knows, maybe it might make an interesting topic...

I'm planning a set of three videos that don't connect literally end to end, but have a similar theme and feel to them. So rather than put up with "OMG that was like so the same as your last one usux0r," I plan to package them as a set and release all three at the same time.

The problem (if it is a problem) lies in song selection. Out of the three, one is completely non-negotiable WILL not change ever at all. The other two could change (one is pretty flexible, and the other I just have this thought of "okay, what else on earth could fit this concept?")

The thing is, out of the three, two are by the same artist and one is not. Now, I wonder if I should try really hard to make them all match, or whether I should go the other direction and make them all different? Or maybe rearrange them so that it's more parallel (right now it goes A-B-B, but it could maybe go B-A-B)?

'Cause this bugs me. Or maybe it doesn't matter that much, and people wouldn't go "WTF why do you have two and one like that usux0r!!!1"

Thoughts?

I think neone ignorant would say "WTF why do you have two and one like that usux0r!!!1"

I don't think it matters too much. People should generally get the idea.

My main thought is that when you do put them up, include the info about them being similar for a reason in bold on the vid info page, along with your vid announcment on the forum. Even then, people won't always read it.

As far as songs go, I think you should choose the order based on style not artist. Whatever order it takes to blend the styles slowly, rather than have one kind, then another, and then a third one that is more like the first on than the second.

Yes, I did plan on mentioning the set thing in the notes. Though each of them are supposed to stand on their own too, I did intend on sticking that right at the top. :P

(vid announcement on the forum? what am I, a masochist? )

That's a good point about style, as well. I'll have to think that over too.

I ask: What are the songs you plan to use?

/end
GeneshaSeal - Dead Seals for Free
Orgasm - It's a Science

:P I don't want to say, because I'm embarrassed at how much my videos suck. That includes the song choices. But if there's a particular reason you're asking, I could try and help that way. (Like, describing the mood or something.)

That's more or less the idea (with the mood)

Hey, I know, could you hum a few bars? :P

Ha ha. :P

bleargh. I don't know, really. All I know is lame-o consumer-whore pop-rock, which nobody with any credibility does nowadays, right? (It's all techno and indie stuff.)

So don't worry about this particular instance, I guess. I think the idea of paying attention to the sound/mood was interesting, and I'll have to think about that for a while.

Thanks for your help, all.
