Newer editor here, three AMVs in. How am I doing? What next?

Hey guys,

As the topic states, I'm somewhat of a new guy on the block. Started editing in fall of last year, and so far, I've produced three AMVs... All three of my AMVs have been submitted to contests, and my first AMV actually made it as a finalist all the way to the main stage at SakuraCon!

I'm not looking for in-depth reviews or a traditional opinion exchange, per se...

I'm more curious about getting some general comments from some more experienced editors about how I'm doing so far! I put a lot of work into storyboarding and I'm not afraid of a little bit of effort, traits which I think are reflected in my AMVs, so I know I'm well ahead of your typical cut-and-paste YT AMV editor  That said, I worry a lot about video quality (I'm really a noob when it comes to Avisynth filters and settings) and I'm also wondering what--if anything--I can do to step it up a notch artistically! Where should I consider going next? That sort of thing.

Here's my YT channel:

The videos on my channel are:
-A World on Fire (Fate/Zero) [Finalist - Drama - SakuraCon]
-A Shot in the Dark (Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works S1) <---this one is undeniably the weakest, I admit!
-Cold Silver (Claymore)

At the moment, I'm using Cyberlink PowerDirector. I really enjoyed using it at first, but I'm starting to find out where its limitations lie, so I'm not necessarily committed to sticking with it! I'm also familiar to a basic degree with VirtualDub, AviSynth, Zarx64gui, etc...

A word on some of my peculiar preferences as an editor:
--I like to keep things spoiler-free if possible. I like to think that an AMV should be able to double as a trailer that I can use to pull a friend into the show featured.
--I always use the entire song, and never include sound effects or spoken lines from the anime. Weird, I know, but personal preference. An AMV is a music video, right? So it should be as true to the music as it is the the anime, don't you think? :P
--I'm not particularly interested in flashy effects. I actually prefer relying mainly on hardcuts and crossfades (I'll admit this might be at least partially a bias resulting from just plain not knowing HOW to do fancy effects), and my AMVs tend to be more story or theme-focused... I don't really see myself ever picking up rotoscoping, but I could be persuaded to become interested in less invasive effects, so to speak.

Constructive feedback and comments are super appreciated! I'll gladly review any video you'd like me to look at in return, though as you might guess I'll be of limited help when it comes to super-technical matters. Thanks in advance!
