Post by Lyrs » Mon Mar 24, 2003 7:56 pm

Have you guys found or dl'ed any?

I use Norton anti-virus and the software told me that one of my amvs had a virus. The virus was not there previously and the only thing that i dl to my pc are amv's. maybe it was my email or something else. anyway, i my software was able to destory the virus and ihad to redl' the amv.

I think you got a false positive. I'm not aware of any viruses that can infect move files and such a beast is very unlikely.

Flash "movies" are another story however. This is an overflow based exploit for .SWF floating around for versions pre January IIRC.

It is a move right? It not something that calls itself a movie but has an executable extension instead (.exe, .vbs, .pif, ...) is it?

I don't think it has ever happened to me. I have gotten virusses before, but I'm not sure how. So there may just be a chance... o_0

....that you know of anyway.

It's rather hard for an AMV to have a virus since it's a video format. You only have to be worried if it's an exexcutable or a document since those are the files that make up the virus (in most cases, not all)

It -is- possible to embed code to open up web pages and such if you're viewing things with WiMP, but I don't think you have to worry about it if you're using something else, like ZoomPlayer...

Agreed, but I think even that will only work with MP3 (well anything with an ID3 tag actually) and WMF. So the MPEG should be fine.

Related side note: it was an overflow condition in the ID3 tags the prompted the 2.81 patch for WinAmp.

Just out of interest... which virus did it claim was infecting it?
