Making Money Off AMV's?

Post by Baka Boy » Tue Mar 18, 2003 10:11 pm

Okay I have a question...I bought Brad Demoss's AMV dvd at Ohayocon and was wondering, is it okay to sell your work for profit? Is there no copyright/restrictions that keep AMVC makers from making dvd's of their work and sell it at cons? My friend told me that you can sell it only for the same price you spent on the blank dvd (so in the end, you'd be getting the exact same amount of money back in which you spent on the blanks). Anyone got a clue?
Sorry I'm late, I was out saving your lives.....in the future!

Sounds like a better plan than making money from a job of WINNING on SC: BroodWar -_-

But no, I have no clue.

So this post didn't help you! Sorry

Just be aware that this topic has essentially been beat to death with no clear consensus being developed, as a result, it probably doesn't need to be ressurected anytime soon.

 from my own thoughts:

i think it's a matter of ethics. if u can get away with makin a large profit off of someone by selling amvs, that's just wrong... but it all depends i guess.

the selling of dvds/cds for just the cost of the discs themselves (may include postage) is alright to me. nobody's making a profit, and the distributor is just sharing with the community.

but technically, all this AMV-creating stuff we're doing is illegal i guess. but no one really cares. :? it's like drifting in the streets of Japan, like within the mountains roads. the police ought to be fining ppl and giving out tickets, but they just don't care.

I honestly don't think it's right to sell it for profts, simply because you are walking a fine line with copyright laws. At most you should sell them to make back your expenses for burning and mailling the CD but that's it. Hell, I don't charge at all for mine, but considering I buy CDs at $5 for 50 I'm not losing that much.
