Magnum Opus

Post by Infinity Squared » Thu Feb 09, 2012 10:36 pm

As there’s plenty of discussion and sentiment about AMVs (or this site specifically) in decline, I was just doing a bit of nostalgic thinking; what do I think is my magnum opus.

A magnum opus is generally defined as a person’s greatest work. This term is probably a bit on the subjective side and for some people, it may or may not equate to their most popular work. What I’m trying to discuss here is, what do you think is your magnum opus in terms of AMVs and why?

At this point, I would probably say Only Bob is that video for me. The effort and troubles I went through to put that together were large enough that in that entire year, it was the only video that I released. It was my most ambitious work and it’s probably the one that has more than anything else prevented me from trying something more grand (every other attempt just felt second-rate).

Anime Academy Heroes is my most popular video but looking back at it now over the years, if I were asked to submit just one of my videos into an art gallery, I can’t say I’d immediately put this one up. It may be the video that I’ll be remembered by but if I had a choice, I would rather it had been Only Bob :P

At my case I still don't have my magnum opus. That one is still coming

But I'm surprised videos like still get attention, even when I got the feeling something more should have done for it.

Oh, that's one other thing I forgot to ask; are you planning or do you think you will at some point in the future make your magnum opus? I guess this delves into the idea that while we're in this hobby you're always aiming for a progressive trend and not just churning the same level of videos continuously.

I'll probably say my upcoming Naruto Ball Z Sequel is going to be my magnum opus. It's the one I feel that I put *everything* into especially story/effects/editing wise and is actually more serious than it's light hearted predcessor.

I also have a much more personal reason why I consider it my opus, but I'll reveal that when I release the video.

If you asked me personally? Betwixt and Between as of now. I think others would believe it to be MHMKS, because it's the "technically" best done.

But Betwixt and Between 3 is planned out to be my attempt at a true Magnum Opus. I'm just waiting for the time when my skills, my sources and my time are at that perfect alignment.

But from all the videos I'm planning to release this year there's one called Let me Know. That amvs is quitely different to all the one I've done. Not only because I return to Rock with that one, but also because I'm using again AE like I did 2 years ago

I don't think I've made one yet. I had a possible one in the works but, unfortunately, someone did an idea similar to mine this year (and quite popularly) so if I ever finished it, I'm sure it wouldn't be well received. But I get new ideas all the time so maybe one of those will pan out.

a[part]

This is my magnum opus because its the first AMV I actually spent a good few months working on, editing, portraying my idea to the best of my ability. This was also my first "serious" AMV for me or an AMV that I actually made a good concept for and went through with it. It is also probably my most confusing AMV I have ever made; to the audience though, not me.

This is also my most popular solo work I have done, my most popular work is an mep, then followed by this collab:

Open Your Eyes
-Which is my second magnum opus.

As for surpassing a[part], defintely. I have many ideas I want to make and would like to just keep making better and better AMVs each time I go. So much that with each one, it steadily becomes my new magnum opus. Though a[part] will probably be a favourite of mine in my heart for a long, long time.

The video im working on right now is proving to be quite a handful, but im not sure if it is my "Magnum Opus". I think in a few more years when i've done more stuff I can look at my videos and say "Yea, that one is the video to rule them all"

I try but I simply can't choose!! I can deffinitely put them in order though, some I deffinitely do NOT like.
my last video and probably traditionally defined as my 'Magnum Opus' I do LOVE this video and I put a TON of work and PASSION into it it was a LOT of fun and honestly I think it's engenious.... BUT

is the video I did before that, it's VERY sassy and I LOVE it!!

is the first video I ever put on the org, I think it's pretty good and I love it for sentimental reasons really, but I still think it's pretty good :) this one is the one with the most stars (almost 200 baby!!!) but it IS from 2002 lol...

is probly my favorite vid on Mondays I think somebody tried to put a romantic spin on Unforgiven.... wrong Metallica song.

is my most touching as watching it brings back memories of all the ppl I'd lost since than.

was so fun (and quirky) that it only took me like 3 hours to do, not including the audio edit. I'm not sure what the inspiration came from though... lol
