What in the bloody smucks happened?
As Taite pointed out in her journal.

Like in all seriousness, what happened? I've been using this website actively for the better part of the last three years, and as each year goes by it "seems" more, and more so dead. The wave of new blood doesn't really give this site a second glance, unless the stigma of this place being an elitist stinkhole is still around, or YouTube/AMVNews/Whatever other site I'm unaware off overshadowed this place completely to some to some dark hole in Tartarus. I've lurked this website back to the early 00s and the 01s, and as i assume the old guard started to just stop using this website as a whole near the 2004-2006 period, which seems to be where this place was at its peak in terms of active users ( Pre-YouTube) And after this place just seems to be dying and dying more and more by the day, not that I'm helping with my lack of activity becoming more and more common, but the lack of more active new blood is a rather disheartening concept and seeing the place where once this hobby was at its humble beginnings is..most disheartening. But i suppose that's just my two cents.

I need to wash my mouth out with soap.
Also, spambots? Were there really hundreds of spambots here once? I wasn't on the org back in 2005, so I'm sure you all would know better if you were here, but how is it there aren't any nowadays? At least from what I can tell.

Wow, that's pretty disheartening but believable as well.Ileia wrote:If I had to venture a guess.....>_>

How many would be most do you think? I'm curious as to whether the org has been becoming increasingly inactive over the years. From my own experiences I've noticed, after coming back to the org late last year after a long break, that less and less people are posting in the Anouncements forum. Something happen that I'm not aware of, or did people just get sick of posting feedback?Nya-chan Production wrote:(Most of those 436 would be spambots anyway, just my 3 cents and a half)

Spam bots could just mean people getting bots to vote for them on the VCA's. It "appears" to have died down but I feel it is slightly the same just a few core people with the ever changing main group, but what do I know I am just a lurker.

Re: What in the bloody smucks happened?
The whole process from uploading your vid to showing it here isn't simplified and lazified enough. Not to mention you can't comment and view a video in the same place here. You also have to signup before you can even view videos and people don't care enough to do that, some just want to watch amvs.
Forums aren't as active because the people that grew up with the org are fading away for anything other than conversation. New people just come to post their vid links to youtube and grab a few viewers since thats allowed. Eliminating donator status only for puting video previews on threads would probably help in this regard. You will be a thousand times more inclined to view a video after opening a thread if all you have to do is click the play button. It's sad but true. This would also make people comment more probably.

"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

Oh, there are still many. My guess is some 20-25% of the registered users are uncaught/inactive/sleeping bots at this point. You should see the mod log for banning bots :>Taite wrote:Also, spambots? And the fact that you can't see them just means the work is being done ^^
