Making the org more accessible.
It's no mystery that the org can be a bit daunting for people visiting it for the first time. "What the heck is ftp and why do I need to make this catalog entry thing if I want to post my video?" was my, and probably many people's, initial reaction. I know any editor worth their salt should not be daunted by this but the fact is that many are. So, I've been wondering. Why shouldn't we have a board specifically for youtube videos? This would serve as sort of an entry level org primer for newcomers. I can't imagine that it wouldn't increase general traffic on the site. This is just the basic idea. Obviously editors who know how to make a catalog entry would not post their videos. But for people who have only just heard of the site and aren't sure how to go about making their videos known right off the bat would be comfortable there. If they don't want to make the jump to the amv announcement board then that's up to them. Is this a bad idea? Heck, is this an old idea? Even if it is I think it deserves another look.

Re: Making the org more accessible.
The problem is that many would argue this goes against the org's mission, which is to make a catalog of every AMV ever made.
Though in theory this might be a good idea. I mean it would attract new users to the org who haven't cataloged their videos. And after posting the youtube video they'll be be directed to the catalog system so they can add their videos.
However it could go the other way. Users wouldn't bother to post their videos in the catalog because they can just post their videos in the youtube section.
It depends on your view of it all I guess. But lets say you have the latter view (as the prior is entirely positive), a potential solution would be to impose some sort of time limit. If a user has posted a video in the section they have a certain amount of time before they have to put their video in the catalog before their post is removed completely. However this could prove counter-productive as this might simply deter users from posting their videos or they'd just let their videos get taken down.

I don't like the idea of creating a subforum for people who aren't contributing to this site, they just want to drop a link and get stats on another site
