It's not just the codec. Visual quality is also influenced by factors such as resolution, framerate, bitrate, and codec settings.
But if the video looks horrible going into the codec, the codec won't make it look any better. That's why having a good, clean input stream is important. And cleaning and smoothing filters for programs like AVISynth can help you in this regard.
MechaTheGreat wrote:If I were to use my Camtasia Studios recorder to record the episodes off of You.Tube, or some other site that has the episodes uploaded on it, and then import those recordings into a program that I can rip the certain clips that I want for the AMV, would this work? And would it have bad quality because I am recording it?
No, it would have bad quality because you got your source from Yuu'utsube. It doesn't matter if your screen recorder can perfectly reproduce what's on your screen if what's on your screen already sucks to begin with.
MechaTheGreat wrote:Also, can I use AviSynth, or some other ripping programs that are used for DVD footage on DLed or recorded footage?
AVISynth is not a ripping program, because it doesn't decrypt DVD data and save it to your hard drive, but I know what you mean.
Nothing's stopping you from using AVISynth and its filters on footage that you got from sources other than DVDs, but just be aware that you'll never be able to make downloaded footage look as good as DVD footage.

Well, what can I use to rip DLed footage?

And...do you know of any AMVs made from DLed footage that are good quality? Like contest worthy quality, if so can you link me to one?

You don't rip downloaded footage. "Ripping" refers to the process of decrypting data off your DVDs and saving it to your hard drive. None of that applies to downloaded footage.

Well then, how do I take certain parts of the show and use them for my AMV using DLed footage?

You shouldn't. It invariably looks like crap.

That can't be helped right now. I said that already.

So, can someone tell me how to do it or what?

If you've read the guides, you should know everything you need to know.

The guides say nothing about anime footage that is DLed, mainly because no one reccomends it, I even don't care much to use it but it is my only option for right now.

For DLed anime, you actually saved yourself tons of time.

The main goal is to make the anime into a common compression so you can edit it.

The main thing u need is Vdub, you will need to find the parts (clip) you want, cut or leave the audio (you choose), and choose another compression and export the clip. That compression can be any accepted ones by your program. it can be DV, RGB, Hufuv...etc. for better quality, use lossless encoder.

KonoE Studio, I will not give good ops because you put in effort. Quality in terms of artistic touch is what I look for.

So I take the episode, put it in VDubMod, cut the clip out, and export it as a loseless codec, like Lagarith?

Seems easy enough.
