VCAs = Urgh?

I was suprised i made so many categories this year (or at all O.o)... atleast just for the semi finals... I dont think I stand a chance against some of the bigger names, but its cool to feel recognized even a little bit...

I too didnt get into this for the fame/site wide reputation... i got into this for the fun and enjoyment i get out of it... plus fame isnt what its all cracked up to be... (especially because this site neglects to have the PR filters that tell you that youre fabulous all the time) so its nice to know that people enjoy what i do (even if i am not yet perfect at it)

I dont think that the VCAs could be anything else other than a popularity contest, thats what they are.. Viewer's Choice... if the viewers dont see then how can they choose...

some people get all huffy on this site because people dont leave them as much attention as others... and all i can say is that they are lacking in either some of the three basics you need to get lots of "instant" response

1. Friends... make friends and people will watch your vids, even if its only your friends..

2. pimp your work... use all the places on this site at your disposal to promote your work, this includes IRC, Forums AND Journals... there are also OUTSIDE places to show off your work.

3. make something good... lots of the videos around here are spread by WORD OF MOUTH, if you make something good then people are more than likely going to want to share it with their friends.. and so on.

you have to do something that gets you to stand out or get noticed... thats the way to "work" the crowd for the vcas as far as i can tell... and some of the "Rookies" have done that... they know how to network on top of giving a great "performance"

I dont find "Rookie of the year" insulting, cause people who start out in this without sucking so hard (like i did) deserve recognition, They did their homework, they did their study BEFORE they started slapping video to music... they deserve to be noticed... when i first started i randomly pasted video to audio, that doesnt really deserve recognition...

as for Most Improved, I dont find this category insulting (being nominated for it myself) I feel that people who show improvement deserve to be recognized as well, though some people who are nominated in that category shouldnt be there *ahem*koop*ahem*, but still, i dont find it insulting to be nominated there because I HAVE improved, and I'm proud to have improved... theres nothing wrong with that or anything to be ashamed of in improving.

when you nominate vids, there are some cateogories where almost every vid on the website from the year is eligable. Out of that long list, people will only vote for what they know.. they're not gonna watch everyone of those hundreds of vids... same for all the other categories =P

vcas arnt unfair XD its choice of the viewers and everybody has there own opinion about each vid they have seen so to me it seems to be perfectly fair
