Can a video be awesome even if it was just fades and cross dissolves? Or does it have to have an effect to make it great?

just another stupid question asked by another stupid n00b
Just to put in my say on things. I have to say an amv doesn't need to have effects to be an awesome amv. Cross dissolves, fading and overlays are great for certain amv's. For the most part the video has to have meaning or else it is just sensless. It isn't that hard to sync the lyrics to an upbeat song and put special effects in there at the same time, but I find it common in the ones I watch that they have great effects but no lyrical sync. The story in my opinion is what counts. The effects are just an add in that will improve the video. For example Shrine of the Goddess one of my earlier amv's did fairly well and didn't have any special effects in it at all. I hope this clears things up a little bit.

amvs is about spillin the m&ms for others to grab, en if you pour them in a bowl, people will like you, if you pour them in the dirt....>_< people will hate you, take other people's m&ms, take a brown chocolate one, make it pink, and take a yellow one and take the peanut out of it, and so on and so forth, just try not to make one crazy bag of m&ms in the end, we like them to be nice or sumtin, i duno, its all m&ms to me baby!
My strength is not that of the mountains, nor is as vast as the plains, nor does each wave crash upon the shore and thunder like lightning into my viens...but that which i can muster, and that which i will, i will bring myself foward into this world like no man has done before...

I can't ignore a thread like this. I've done both, and I have to say FX-driven is far more satisfying for me to create. Yeah, I agree it does have to have at least the resemblence of a point with continuity... other wise, you end up with shit like Shonen Bushidou. That was just painful to watch. O_o

Shounen Bushido was awesome :x

That is...the lip sync and overlays were...the white and black boxes were retarded though.

Heh. From the sound of it... everyone loved it but me. I can appreciate the INSANE amount of work that went into it. But I thought it was just GAY.
