Maybe you just like to lurk and analyze everything, but you're not much of a part of this forum with just 18 grand posts. And as for you Anneke you seem to only show up when it's time to bitch about something. Last time I saw you here it was in the "Let's bitch about Vic and his DVD selling ways". Tho he did need a >_> kick in the balls for that one tho. :< oh yes indeed.

:\

Point being, sure it's shit in your eyes, but what are you going to do about?

ERmm nothing ? :?

~klinky
klinky has a point.
i mean... why complain about a forum you hardly ever post on? because you consider yourself a par tof the "community" by not participating in any discussions?

boo.

CaTaClYsM wrote:As for the review, I'm sorry it pissed him off. People need to understand that not everyone is going to like what you do when you make art. You'll get feedback that you have to learn to deal with on an emotional level. It comes with the territory of making AMVs and then posting them here to get reviews. Also, if I hadn't reviewed his vid and upset him, he probably wouldn't have reviewed mine in return. Some good came from it.

i hate to say it tony, but your review was biased to the extreme. it insulted meh. it was a direct insult, and the numbers were no where near as high as the 8.17 that you stated.

but once i commented on your opinion and left a FAIR one on your silent lucidity one, you decided to change the thing completely.

you cant ask for a better community unless you yourself seems to understand that ideal you're searching for.

Phade even spoke to him about it from what I remember. Also because of his actions, the Worlds Largest Thread was taken away, though I think it's bullshit that it was.
i never touched that thread. mods found it cute to delete it and put my name on the blame list. eff them.

personally, i think kusoyaro was modding me.
methinks HE deleted that thread.

methinks they did, sugah. methinks they did.
but it's not about the numbers. was it? that was your point right? it was about your insulting opinion towards my work in general. was it not? but apparently you're overlooking that and pointing to the numbers.

i mean.. if anyone's left an opinion on my Session 02 video, you can see my reply to tony's opinion. only his opinion is hcnaged now, but you can see how bad it might have been.

I suggest you go back and read it yourself. I removed no comment from them, only added to them. The numbers did not change and neither did my opinion of the video or towards your work in general.

In fact, rather than hide this to just the people who have commented your video, I'll post it here:

---------------------------------

Good:
Video quality and sound are good. Good timing. Starts off good, but then it repeats and becomes booring.

-------------------------------

Bad:
Use of digital effects in this video are in poor taste. Beat flashing with white noise is a joke and is the work of amateur editors.

This video (intentionally) uses repeated scenes. Why? To play off the sentiment of Cowboy Bebop's favorite character. I read the artist's intent for use of re-using the footage and it's bogus. He reused the scenes because his concept failed because there isn't enough good footage of Faye's youth to sustain a video of that length without reusing footage.

This is a video that requires you watch cowboy bebop in order to understand the sentimental point it's trying to drive home as subtley as a 2x4 to the head.

---------------------------------
General:

This is another video where I wish I could give a fractional score for overall. Because of the good timing and video/audio quality, a 7 is too harsh. On the other hand because of the booring nature of this video (to the point that I had trouble watching it) an 8 is too good for it. *sigh* . I hate the review system here. ^^;
---------------------------------
Addenum 8/7/02:

Appearantly someone took things I said above a little too personally. It doesn't matter what your name is, I hate cheesy beat flashing be it with white noise or just white flashing. I think it's lame and amaturish regardless of who does it. I nailed Kusoyaro for using it in a review I wrote about one of his videos. I'll nail ErMaC or Brad for using it if I catch them doing it. There are times where that kind of effect is appropriate such as in a dance video but it was an immediate turn off in the first few seconds of this one. You do stay away from it later on in the video. Since you don't provide the option to vote on effects, this doesn't even show up in the numbers above.

Now where did I mention not liking the song you used and why do I have to take other people's opinion into account when writing my review? Where do I mention that I counted a lack of lip sync against you? Nowhere. The top 5 videos I like don't have any lip sync in them. That's no point against you here.

On the other hand lips shouldn't flap like they are talking in a video if you aren't lip syncing, now that you mention it...

What I see here as it relates to the reused footage is a video that's concept is really only good enough to hold up for about 1/2 the song because it doesn't evolve into anything new and doesn't connect with people emotionally. This video is about a woman staring at childhood videos. When she's done, she watches the tape again. Then she watches it again. Then a 3rd rerun just to drive the point home. I'm sorry, that's just not enough to tell me that you really planned out this concept to be sure it worked all the way through the song. It looks like you had a good idea and went after it but found when you got into it you ran out of footage and tried to figure out what to do next. Sorry. That's the impression I get when watching it.

Be prowd of this video. It ranks high technically - it just lacks in the department of attention getting and emotion/story to sustain the length of the song. I believe my numbers reflect that and are very generous with that regard.

Bad points are more important than good points when taking constructive criticism and making something out of it. Here's what I was trying to say:

1) Stay away from beat flashing
2) Work harder on concept and make sure you have enough footage to complete it
3) Try to make your concept good enough to fly emotionally even with people who haven't seen the series before.

Sorry you read between the lines. I know lots of people on this place see others as stuck up and me using the word "Amateur" in the review is probably what set you off. Keep in mind that this was "session 2", only your second video. I took that into consideration when writing this review and it boosted the numbers in the review in your favor.

-----------------------------------------

The addenum was in response to the following comments by the creator who in it insults the integrety of my review by claiming bias:

you have to take into account the fact that most people on the "dot org" (as people like to put it) really dislike the music i used for this video. "who's Our Lady Peace?" and "Why do the vocals suck so much?". i think the biggest issue here is 'lyric syncing'. so i dont like syncing lyics with the anime. why? because it's effing retarded most of the time. unless it holds a real meaning then why the hell would you bother with the idea? jebus. of course i'm an amateur [slap]. you'd think that if i were anything good my name would be ermac, or or, brad demoss... maybe kevin caldwell.. ooh, or Anthony Bennett. right? [ooh face]

some 'directors' like to use their footage in more ways than one. with more deeper meanings. rather than just cute scenes pasted together.

as far as the white noise effect goes, it was a quick effect to match up with the tv screen shot chibi-faye was on. i mean.. tv, white noise... go hand in hand. had i used white noise in another spot, like maybe.. on a non-tv related spot (i.e. the scene of the old lady) i would be able to see how whacky it could have been.

as far as repeating footage, the repeated scenes are only quick flashes. flash flash flash. nothing to drawn out. right? hmm...

----------------------------------------------------

i believe the concept i had originally come up with was met. i'm proud of how it came out. it's still my favorite video. call me crazy.

~Daniel.

p.s. I love you too. [hugs]
