Please do us a favor. Call up your doctor right now. Explain to him that your medicine is drastically affecting your mental processes and has reduced your apparent IQ by triple digits. Ask if there are alternate medicines you can try, or failing that if there's a padded room they can put you in. All your friends are worried about you. Consider this an online intervention.

I see music videos as being 4 groupings

Pre MTV fad where all you got was video of a concert. Ok but boring.

The 80s and everything was the hairdo and make up. Mostly artificial looking.

The 90s, and suddenly the 80s actually looked good somehow.

2000 and anime replaces normal mainstream music videos.

Ok maybe it's more about how "I" saw it :)

But as I see it, amvs were greatly improved once more people had access to better source material once anime went past vhs. Because all the editing software in the world won't make rotten source content look great.

And then there is the same limitation you get in literature. There's only so many possible ideas after all. Eventually all you have left, is do the same idea, but with a more recent anime. So it's the same idea, but new show, maybe slightly different tune, but same original notion.

Hey, a fan service comical notion video is eventually only about panties and boobs. It doesn't matter what anime you use, in the end, it's just bouncing breasts and undies.

And no matter how clever the effects look, eventually there's a limit to how many ways you can slice up an image and reassemble it. Strobe effects always come out about the same (hard on the eyes).

I'm usually only really impressed when the song, and the video, and the effects are not what made you stand up and take notice.
For instance, a complete waste of 6 minutes and 35 seconds (yes I know, that's not verbatim, but you know the film I mean so why worry), is in my opinion a great example of a good gag amv. I love getting people to watch it, and then telling them they were such and such number victim I had made watch it :)

A great amv is like great art. It takes a great artist to make them. In any "era" there will only be a few actually great ones. But there will always be a lot of schlock.
Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

I actually have, and the reason she didn't want to distro on the org is because she didn't want anyone to "steal her clips".....

This is the only true part I've seen in the entire thread. I motion this thread be locked since there can be nothing more of significance that can be added.
