there are types of amv editors and different editors enjoy amv or hate amv in a different way.
here are the editor-dex
------------------------------
AMV-Editor-Just-For-Fun
- The most basic amv editor, most people start with it and evolve into different kinds of editor after some times
- Mostly found in tube.
- They pick a song they like, an anime they like, the scenes they think are cool, then mix them randomly. Sometimes we can see some mood synch, lyric synch and beat in their amvs, but very few. Anyway they can get happy and satisfied easily with those little synchring. They have their fun by uploading their amvs to tube and enjoy receiving comments like "AWESOME, THE BEST NA**TO AMV I HAVE EVER SEEN", "COOLEST COMBO EVER, *INKIN PAR* + **RUTO" Anyway they might lose their fun after posting their amvs in the AMV Annoucement thread. SOME of these editors never intend to improve, they do amvs with the ways they like. So when they receive negative comments, they will just leave them and continue with their ways.
- Of course, some editors evolve from this and some do not, they just enjoy being "AMV-Editor-Just-For-Fun"
-------------------------------
They-Think-They-Are-Great-Noobish-AMV-Editor
- evolved from AMV-Editor-Just-For-Fun
- evolution condition : receice too many positive unreasonable comments
- mostly found in tube
- The worst evolution from "AMV-Editor-Just-For-Fun", and it is even worse than "AMV-Editor-Just-For-Fun "
- Noobish-AMV-Editor, who they think they are great, and maybe the greatest and never treat negative comments sincerely. When they received negative comments, they could say things like "you are too inexperienced to rate my amv", "you don't know what is amvs". they cannot face the fact that they are the worst and keep believing they are the best. It is mainly because they got too much positive unreasonable comments in their "AMV-Editor-Just-For-Fun" state, they become arrogant and evolve into "Noobish-AMV-Editor". they have fun being a noob and praise other noobs and get praised by other noobs. They found amvs are not fun after they reached AMV Annoucement Thread. One word, pathetic.
--------------------------------
Solid-AMV-Editor
- evolved from AMV-Editor-Just-For-Fun
- a few talented editors start with this state, pretty awesome O.o
- evolution condition : watch some real good amvs and have awareness that they are not good enough. they also must be able to take negative comments in "AMV-Editor-Just-For-Fun" state
- mostly found in tube and also a-m-v.org
- they love to do amvs and they always want to be better. they asked for constructive comments and critics and appreciate them. Anyway some of them are not much influenced by quality instead they focus on editing, synch and action flow. they don't bother with the quality, exporting, codecs and have fun editing. They can make a good amv and have fun doing amv with the song and anime they like. they found amvs are not fun when they get bored with it XD or someone complains about the quality
--------------------------------
Pro-AMV-Editor
- evolved from "Solid-AMV-Editor" mostly
- evolution condition : motivations like contests, prizes and prides
- one of the best amv editors around
- mostly found in a-m-v.org and tube
- they seek for perfection in their amvs, in the terms of quality, editing, synch and action flow, scenes selection and such. They appreciate every comments and try to improve and improve to become the best. They like to take part in amv con to see who is the best and have fun winning prizes and pride. In order to do that, they could spend a lot of time for editing and ripping to reach perfection and their saticfactory. Anyway they could feel bored after spending a long time editing. The things can keep them editing are their love to anime, their love to the songs, their determination or their love to the pride and prize or maybe their love to the dedicated characters in their amv.
-------------------------------
Retired-AMV-Editor
- evolved from "Pro-AMV-Editor" or "Solid-AMV-Editor"
- evolution condition : get BORED or they found something they like more
- not found anywhere, just disappear away. There are still exceptions if they still like to watch amvs.
- they get bored when people keep complaining about the quality. They think it is better to do other things rather than AMVing. They get tired of time exhausting scenes selection, ripping and editing. In short, they find amvs are not fun.
here are my opinions about various editors

I am none of the above... because I have yet to release an AMV...
Eitherway, I can still answer the original question.
AMVs are no fun when you take it too seriously. Honestly, out of all the time I've spent editing, I have never bothered releasing a single one because I take a look at them and go "wait, that's not right" then go back for a few hours touching it up.
In saying that however, I am currently the closest I've ever been to actually finishing an AMV. Why? Because I am actually enjoying myself. I've put myself into the mindset of "who the hell gives a damn" I mean, obviously it won't be Kewp-tastic, but hell, if some people watch it, and get at least a few minutes of enjoyment out of it, I think I've done a job well done.
In short: AMVs are only as much fun as you are willing to have while making them.
(which kinda didn't make sense, so I'll end by saying, don't take it too seriously, but don't treat it like some kind of easy thing to get done. If you have a passion for it, then you should be fine)
Which again, sounds kinda weird. Hell, I don't even know what I'm talking about anymore. I'll leave it to the pros to discuss... >.>

Sooooo people who make videos just for fun are tube newbies that can hardly sync, can't take any critics about their videos and never improve?
I don't really consider that a discription of someone that makes vids just for fun.
Sounds more like someone who just doesn't care about what they are doing.
I make videos just for fun
I enjoy putting an anime I like along to a song i like and care about following all the technical stuff to make sure I can do it the best I can.
If it wasn't fun doing them, i wouldn't be in this hobby
Just desn't seem like a fitting discription to me...
Even though I do edit, I don't think i fully fit into any of the above
Could have read it wrong since im tired but that just doesn't sound right to me

Anyway, I don't think when you're really serious about making a ultimate AMV that many people will praise, that you really enjoy making it. It becomes more of a chore that one must to in order to attain perfection.
Hell, I've seen the making of "Whisper of the Beast" and I can confidently say, that did NOT look like fun to make. I seriously can't see what's so fun about spending countless hours rotoscoping every single frame of 2 minutes so that it becomes more unique and defined.
That being said, I'm sure they had fun looking at the hits/comments that their AMV got.

So AMV-Editor-Just-For-Fun as well as Solid-AMV-Editor and Pro-AMV-Editor also do amvs just for fun . but they are more "solid" and care about the others' opinions more.
