t drives me nuts when I download an AMV with a 3.5/4 star rating and discover it's definately not deserving of that score. I expect to enjoy a 3+ rated video, not groan and wish I hadn't wasted my time.
Mebbe some kind of star rating equation should be set up (ok, this is kind of in the opinion ranking area, already) so that people are hit over the head with the concept that bad things like poor video/music quality, messed up timing, horrible (or no) lipsynching should be "punished."
For example, automatic deductions for:
-3 points for any evidence of subtitles.
-2 points for poor video quality (i.e. clearly not DVD sourced)
-1 point for poor lipsynching
Not saying viewers will abide by these guidelines, but I know I'm guilty of slapping a "3" on an AMV suffering from unacceptable video quality PLUS bad lipsynching just because I like the video's concept or could tell someone put a decent amount of work into the AMV.
This kind of auto-deduction would certainly knock down the vast majority of below-par AMVs, making the higher score of 3+ mean a lot more.
I'd like to add that, IMO, an AMV rated at 1 shouldn't even be considered an AMV! YUCK
