Well, if it doesn't include the edits/effects, then maybe .7 seconds doesn't matter (much)... but if it's a whole vid, as in this case, or includes a lot of effects, then it does, I think.

I'm a high school kid... I don't have much money, but I save up and buy DVDs.

Also, it's just offensive to some of us editors to have our work stolen, some of these people wouldn't object, or not as much, if we were talking clips of anime downloaded off of a file-sharing site.

Not that I know of anyone who's stolen my videos.

I just say, support the people who make the anime originally. If you can't afford it, you can probably get a part-time job... even a few hours a week and you could get a few DVDs each month (since you're in high school your parents probably pay for your food, clothes, and housing)... not that I have job, I'm just lucky enough to get an allowance.

In closing, I'd just like to mention the fact that I need to pee.

do you have any idea what the job market is like in rural utah?

I looked for a job for 4 solid months, and for every job I got interviewed for there was at least 5 other people applying who were actually old enough to have a high school diploma. Who do you think they're gonna pick?
BTW, just on a side note, most people may not be aware of this, but if you've got cable TV, you're actually entitled to have "backups/recordings" of ANY show aired. So for example I've got cable, since I've had it, every episode of Cowboy Bebop has been aired on CN, because of that I can actually freely download episodes of Cowboy Bebop. There's some argument as to whether you can only have episodes captured off cable or stuff ripped from the DVDs as well, but it is something to consider.
Okay...so, does that mean that I can download shows from the web, that would normally play on tv, and that's legal?
(honest question here, don't bite my head off, please)

The one whose most qualified. And uh, a high school diploma does not necesarily equate to qualified...not by any means. Have you looked into any student work programs? A lot of places have them. Most places also have like a "Work Source" type place that can help you get a job. Unemployment offices also have all sorts of resources to help you find a job, etc, etc, etc.

I'm wondering where exactly it is you're applying at though. In most cases you can just walk into Mickey Ds and as long as you can flip a burger without drooling they'll pretty much hire you on the spot. At least that's how it is in Oregon and Washington. Not sure exactly what the unemployment rate in Utah is like, but I can't imagine that it's the worst.

Yup. If you've got cable and you see someone post say episode of Enterprise, you can legally download them and watch them at your leisure. Falls under fair-use copyright laws. If yer payin for cable, you're also paying for the right to keep a personal copy to watch at your leisure.

If your just starting out

I see how taking scenes from somebody elses AMV can be annoying, but if they dont have the time (or money ) to buy equipment to make their own AMV from scratch, is it really all that bad? I know they should give you credit, and ask for permission. But if they send you an E-mail and you don't check it for a long time, and they post their AMV with your cilps on it w/o your sayso is it really that wrong.

Cause even I made AMVs using someone elses cilps, and it came out pretty stinkin good (of course I didn't put them on the site yet, cause the person who made the cilps never returned my E-mails). Some AMVs I made out of someone elses cilps came out better. If thats the case, please tell me if using someones AMV cilps to make their own is bad. If it is, tell me how?

#MY "2" CENTS#

Just taking another persons vid (which they worked long and hard to create) and slapping a different song onto it is a violation. Yes, a violation of the AMV creators code. Also, I thought it was funny he talks about "not stealing" and "doing it for yourself" witin his profile.

i hope that clears things up

Well i understand everything now. But theirs still one thing on my mind. If you use the Specialy Editied footage, with another group of footages, and it comes out really good, and at the AMV it say Special Thanks to whoever, whoever, and whoever. Could you do that, and not get in trouble?

Using clips is one thing but just replacing the audio from another persons entire video another :!: As far as not being able to get the proper equipment, Windows Movie Maker comes with Windows XP. In the end this is all just a hobby (be it a very technical one) so if you don't have the time you don't have to do it. Not trying to be sarcastic just realistic :|
