To get this thread slightly back on track, I have this memory of reading pre-2001 on an editor site about his excel saga video set to pinky and the brain getting shown on some TV station in France (I know I know not news). Wayback machine only goes to his 2001 site redesign though, so I can't solidify my claim.
Here's the video:
If you follow the indirect you'll eventually find a link to a youtube version.

Ok, so when did "ripped" and "remixed" become such esoteric terms that they require quote marks?
I must say, the author started in about the .ORG and I was like, SSSSHHHHHH!!! DAMNIT, SHUT UP!!
Oh, and I am a geek. I don't look like one (folks are always shocked to their shoes when they find out my dirty little secret), but I am. I was a geek before AMVs or anime ever entered my life, and I will be after they leave it, so that's that. This hobby certainly exacerbates the geekiness, but it's not yet leaving a physical stamp of geekiness on me. Unless the wrist brace I wear while mousing counts. hrm...

For comparison purposes (ie: it's semi-off-topic, but more on-topic than some of these replies), here's a recent New York Magazine article interviewing vidder Luminosity:

actually in my case the geek starts at one. If it wasn't for amvs I'd be on the computer doing other 'geeky' things like fantasy football or MMORPGs, so the fact that I am a geek has no relevance on amvs. o.0NerdStrudel wrote:well if Something you do is geeky then you are geeky. But you are not taking the control over who I am away from me. No fucking way.
This of course doesn't mean you are like.. this huge geek without a life or something, but when you get this defensive.. one has to wonder :O
