And for the record, DUAL-CORE CPUS OWN FOR EDITING!!! :D
WHat reason would you want/need more ram. save you money and buy something else. 1 gig is more than enough to run what ever you need, I mean unless you are making major motion pictures on your home pc.

Well, if you have premiere, aftereffects and photoshop open, and are working with large files like HD footage then that can eat up your computer pretty quickly. Sometimes it's nice to be able to switch from one app to another.
Top that off with 'to ram' previews.

Plus he gets to brag that he has 4 gig, that's worth even more.

I got mine about...1 or 2 years ago? Went to Costco and got a Gateway after my Vaio up and died on me after about 3-4 years. I mean c'mon! I have one of those cheapo ones that still runs after 6 years. Would have liked to build my own but too many choices and me just don't go well together  ...I can never decide. :P

Anyway...just copying from the sticker still on my computer. :P

Intel Pentium D Processor 820
each core running at 2.8 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2x1 MB L2 cache
1024 MB DDR 2
250 GB SATA HD, 7200 RPMw/ 8mb cache
Intel Graphics Accelerator 950
Intel 945G Chipset
a DVD and a DVD+/-RW drive

and 2 external HDs, 153GB and 186GB

There's my humble machine... I don't have too many problems with it...a little slow for me sometimes still, but ALOT better than my old one. I can actually edit files in the GB sizes! OMG! :P use Premiere Elements mainly (got it last Thanksgiving Day sale) or Ulead Video Studio 8 if I want some decent FXs (but it doesn't run as well)...don't know how all these people can afford to go Pro...*sigh* wish I could...

I'm surprised at some of the systems on this thread though. I wonder if it's just because most people with average setups don't post, or if it's because the average computer has gotten much better?

I was using a P3-800 for awhile; small step up from the 600 MHz PII-Celeron that I started with.

Now, it's a 3 GHz P4 in a low-end Shuttle with 1GB of RAM and an Asus FX5200 video card driving a 20" Dell. Throw in a 120 GB WD and a stack of external hard drives. Except for the new Pioneer DVDRW, everything is over two years old.
