Just because your song is five minutes long,

Good point. Stupid arguements never go anywhere.

Phade wrote: LENGTH
If you notice in your preparatory research, most good videos are about four minutes or so long. If the song you choose is longer than that, an easy way to remedy the length is to cut out a verse or a guitar solo or some other part and splice the song into a shorter track. Doing long songs with videos is very difficult because you have to hold your audiences attention and keep the video idea going longer.
Another good method for reducing song length is to just fade out the music and cut it off whenever your ideas run out. It's better to stop while your ahead instead of killing the video by putting in filler material. Extending a short song is generally not a good idea.

The only time I will edit the song down is
1. It is too long for a contest or just general viewing
2. I don't think the idea I have for the video can carry throughout the whole song.
I jsut did a video that fits the later, while working on it I realized the theme and story were progressing so fast that dragging the AMV on for another three minutes would make it tiresome to the audience and probably lose attention too easily so I trimmed it. So long as you can find a good place to fade the music out without it seeming too obvious that it's cut short you're fine.

Out of all the videos that I've done thus far, I've only used the entirety of the original audio once. I don't believe that adding filler to meet a certain arbitrary length demand is beneficial. In fact, I know of a great many videos that could've benefitted from a good audio trim. More often than not, brevity seems to work to the advantage of the video rather than against it.

Really it is all up to the creator and in his or her confidence that he or she can use the full song and keep the video interesting. If the creator is confident enough, then that creator will make the video to the full song and make the video good all the way through. As far if you are a creator that says I just want to get this done the video is good so far but you feel to rush it at the end don't. I stress it in my ops constantly don't rush your videos. If you put so much work in the first 3 minutes than why not the 4th and final minute or 5th for that matter. If you feel that you want to end your video then edit the song shorter by fading out during an instrumental section or something. Me personally I'll probably always use the full length of the song because I feel the song is the message and if you remove part of the song your removing part of the message.

I do not like the idea of audio trimming for it takes alot away from the meaning of the song.
"but the part I trimmed was just an instrumental solo".....yeah but imagine someone who loves this instrumental solo. They watch the AMV and end up going "WTF!?" which has happened to me. Knowing someone edited a song I like pisses me off no matter how great the video was. Sometimes I can't even listen to the song anymore because I liked the AMV so much that I can't listen to the original anymore. Same goes for the AMV meaning I wouldn't create a seperate audio file and listen to it. The whole song sometimes turns to crap.
I can name at least 3 songs I can't listen to cause of this......whoever made those AMV's.....thanks alot

But don't You think that that was the editor vision? Sure, he could put some crap in there, and ther ya go - the amv wuoldn't be great anymore :< Surely it must be frustrating, that the amv made you dislike the entire song, but don't you think that this is an argumenet in favour of the trimming? Cause if an amv with trimmed song was even greater than whole song for you, than the editor did his job well...Rurounikeitaro wrote:I do not like the idea of audio trimming for it takes alot away from the meaning of the song.

I think, that cutting the song isn't a must in every amv, but saying that everyone should make amv for full version of songs is just silly. The AMV is not the song, it's brand new thing. And if the creator thinks it's better to throw some things away than let it be, if this will make the amv better.

I feel for you. I understand what you are saying and have the same experience with a few songs myself.Rurounikeitaro wrote: I can name at least 3 songs I can't listen to cause of this......whoever made those AMV's.....thanks alot
However, what you've said here is, in my opinion, a great compliment to the editor(s) of those AMVs.
Pray 4 peace! Not an AMV, something you can do to help!
