Well, I don't know about you, but I don't think I've ever seen an AMV without a short info clip about the music and the anime, giving credit where credit's due.

Also, all of my videos (Save my newest one ;) ) used footage from other AMVs. I never asked anyone's permission because:
1): I tried to use clips that didn't use any effects added by the AMV creator
2): I wasn't/am not well known enough that my videos are going to be widely distributed
3): I didn't really think it would be a big deal

Now, obviously to some people it's a big deal. But their main beef is with people copying from their AMV the transistions and digital effects they used. I bet that same person (We'll call him "Pro AMV Maker" :P ) would have less of a problem, possibly no problem at all, if someone created a video from scratch that used a transistion or digital effect the Pro AMV Maker used/made. That shows that the person knows what they're doing. Granted, the Pro AMV Maker doesn't "own" his/her AMV, but it's the principle: The Pro AMV Maker put a ridiculous amount of time, money and love (yes, love) into making the AMV. I know I would be pissed if someone just blatently ripped what I had spent so much effort into making, just to add it to their video. Now, on the other hand, if someone went through the same process I did to create their clip, even if it was exactly the same as mine, I'd applaud them, and be able to recognize how much effort they put into creating that clip.

I'm sure everyone is familiar with Vanilla Ice, and how he ripped a Queen bass line without giving them credit. I'm also pretty sure that everyone knows that if Vanilla Ice would have asked Queen for permission to use it, or had given them credit for the track, then he would have bene safe from legal action. But do you also know that if Vanilla Ice would have hired a studio bassist to play that riff, even if it was the exact same riff, effects and all, he would have been safe from legal action? It's because they wouldn't have copied Queen's recording and used their own. Nevermind the fact that it would sound exactly the same; the studio bassist created that.

I've gotten so off track, I'm rambling around while I'm starting to fall asleep. I'm going to end my post with what I should have started it with: If you really want to make AMVs, you should do what just about everyone else does and buy the DVD and rip them yourself. You learn a lot in the process and you have more control over what footage you can use.

An AMV creator who edits in clips from other people's AMVs, is like a collage artist who pastes in sections of other people's collages. Or a DJ who uses other people's mixes rather than creating his/her own from records.

I will not give up. I will make things better for the next generation of AMV makers even if all you "pros" end up hating my guts.
We all see your point.

Are you seeing ours?
