I'd have to say that when it comes to stars, I decide what to give just as I decide many other things in my life; on a whim. That's not to say that my stars don't reflect what I think of the video, oh no. I happen to think my whims are some of the best things I got. Chances are if my first impression of the video is 'this sucks,' then it's going to stay that way, and the likewise is equally true. So, I really have no real 'template' on which to base my star ratings, I simply give them according to how well the video sat with me. 'Did I like this? Yes? 4, maybe 3, depending.' 'Was it a most excellent video that rocked the house? Yes? 5, maybe 4, depending.' 'Why don't I remember anything about this video? *watch it again* Oh yeah, that's why. 2. 3 if I'm feeling good at the time.'

The only hard-and-fast rules I consciously made for myself were in regards to a 1 rating. I will not give a 1 unless A) the video was preachy about some concept that I truly disagree with, or B) I downloaded the video and fired it up, only to have it crash some part of my system (DivX player, explorer, the hard drive :?).

My criteria fluctuate over time: A video that got a 5 from me three months ago could very well get a 3 from me now and vice versa. First impression and song choice matter the most for me when I'm rating a video. Opinions are a different thing, they tend to be more like technical evaluations.

x2
they have a lot of catagories, but in the end, ur just giving scores based on how well the video was put together.. not really rating the video's heart if you wanna look at it that way

so if someone does an op, it's best to get the numbers done with quickly and spend relatively more time on the comments, that's where the real opinion comes in

even though when i started doing ops, i'd give things like
Good Points-All
Bad Points-N/A
General Comments-... ..

but some videos were actually like that, everything was beautiful, nothing was bad, generally i didn't feel anyway, because i loved the video, i didn't generally like it, so at times, it's appropriate if you don't wanna write pages and pages about every aspect of the video in the Good Points, it's good to just write All/Everything/I need a cigarette, that type of thing
If you're reading this, you've gone too far...PREPARE FOR RETRIBUTION!!
Don't judge an AMV by it's anime.. u nooB ;D
