Every generation has its crap.
But the sheer number of crap has gone up...given perhaps the ratios and percentages have remained. I think Kionon or somebody else already cited the reasons for this (ease of use and whatnot).

I agree with you that there's more of them, but changed, not really. We just have easier access to seeing all of the crap that has always been made.

I can agree with this.

I also want to state that I'm by no means saying folks shouldn't make what they want. I'm all for that and do that myself. At the same time, I in turn have every right to dislike it or find it mediocre and move on. That seems to be the consistent pattern nowadays where I find things people say are "amazing" to be the very definition of mediocre for me.

The only reason there's more crappy videos is because there's MORE videos (although, this is even arguable if not plain wrong if you go by the Org's database numbers. Though if you throw in YouTube than yeah it's off the charts). I remember watching videos back in 2000 and seeing the same ratio of good-to-bad videos that I see today (hell, if not moreso).

Point is, this thread is pointless.

Yeah, come to think of it, this thread is pointless. I remember back in 2000-2001 everyone getting tired of standard editing and wanting to get into effects. Now 7-8 years later, we want to go back? Wtf?

 Yeah ... is very true, there is no evolution, just emerging trends, I think like Koopiskeva, I like all types of amvs, whether old or new, while having a good consepto!

Yet the only videos that ever get attention are the effects heavy video. O_o

Uh. As for evolution, I see the possibility of video quality getting higher and higer definition. That's about it, really.

Could someone please explain to me what makes this topic worth discussing, instead of us editing?
