AMV Horror Stories?

Well, I edited Quid Pro Quo in a non-linear manner. So some of the later scenes were lip-synced before the earlier ones were put in. I actually finished a good chunk of the ending, about 20 seconds worth of frame-by-frame lip-sync, when tragedy struck.
I was moving around some of the earlier footage, and somehow overlapped one scene with another, causing it to shift that clip. I fixed that, but what I didn't know at the time was that doing that also shifted the rest of the track by that amount. So I save my progress and keep editing for a few days. Then, when I go to export, I notice that everything at the end of the video was completely off. That's when I finally figured it out. So I ended up having to re-do about five hours' worth of masking and lip-sync on that video.
I now save at least three versions of every project.

I´m sorry. I was really busy the last day. Let´s celebrate our first AMV Day Of Destruction! ^_^ WheeeeOk, Bauzi, you first. Razz
What’s the worst problem you’ve ever run into?
#1 blankclip.avs
About 3 months ago I opened my Premiere Pro project and was wondering why "blankclip.avs" (error message) was missing everytime when my own avs footage wich do not contain a video stream (the vobs file were not on the hd right now).
So I thought it could be really nice to see a lot of blankclips in my timeline that replace automaticly missing or corrupt footage. Well I thought that it´s a function of the avs plug-in of AMVApp 3 beta.
I searched my comp and there was no blankclip.avs. The next step was to search the net for such a script. I found one and inserted it.
Alright. My project opened and all the missing files were replaced automaticly. Nice.
Than I added my old vob files and opened my project again after some editing. Nothing worked anymore, because the settings like ressolution, fps, duration and such things were not equal to the script.
The big bad ass problem was that I couldn´t change the ress, fps, duration of blankclips because Premiere wanted the old settings of the script. Alright. I couldn´t change the settings of the script anymore, because they´re more or less burned into my project now.
My conclusion is that the avs import with the blankclips somehow went around the strict rules of an Premiere Pro project file. It was really wired.
In the end I wasn´t able to import my original scripts anymore. Thankfully I recovered my project file on my extern hdd. If I wouldn´t have done it some days ago the project would be lost.
#2 Ulead 7 screwed Ulead 6
Back in the old days in 2002 where I still considered myself as a noob I was bounded on an old 266Mhz machine. Me and my best friend started in the hobby so we shared the programs that we bought. We started with Ulead Video Studio 5 and upgraded to 6 and than to 7.
My comp wasn´t able to handle U7 and so I switched back to U6, but the installation of U7 caused a very bad failure in U6. U6 wasn´t able to use clips the right way. It really screwed it up (even more than my Premiere Pro does screw up XviD and MPEG-1). After a lot of time I figured out that it was only able to handle one certain bunch of clip settings. In the end I had to reencode all of my 100 clips to these settings ;_;
I never was able to fix the encoding failure of U6.
What’s the thing that still makes you cringe when you see it?
#3 Typos and rendering the whole day
Afer I finished my big fat 13 minutes solo project "Deus Machina", I had to render the giant files out of my programs.
First. I was only able to render about 5 seconds of a timeline before my PC crashes. Just because my hdd was so full of videos that I just needed for the AMV. So I rendered 5 secs and than reopened PP or AE. That took a hell of time for a 13 minutes project.
Of course you see your mistakes when you watch the full file so I fixed some failures and rendered... new one came up... same again... same again... I found a typo and tried to fix it, in the end I took the wrong clip and you can still see the typo.
After rendering one full day I released it. Of course people pointed out the typo and a new one. All right I was done with my nerves and wanted to leave it as it is until next week. The next days I bought my first extern hdd and saved my project file of Deus Machina. It didn´t even took 24 hours before my extern hdd broke. The whole project was gone and the typos are still left =/
When I think about the project the first thing that comes to my mind are the typos. That´s sad because I really love this video and it´s my personal favorite work of mine. I really hate that the bloody typos in there.
Has an AMV ever driven you to drink (or smoke or go for a really long walk or put crazy stuff in the blender just so you can pulverize something)?
#4 "Drink brother drink"
Yes. I often have next to me a bottle with fresh water. When I rendered the Deus Machina video I always drank a gulp of the wated. All in all I drank 6 liters water just out of this bootle, because I got really mad on the whole thing nearly all the time.
You can find me on YT under "Bauzi514". Subscribe to never miss my AMV releases.

So let's see, there are a large number of WMM-related issues, not to mention technical glitches overall. Seems like people are overall more traumatized by their software and hardware than by D'OH moments. ^_^
In terms of technical difficulties, the most irritating, persistent issue has to be when Premiere - for some reason - decides it cannot render any video that is in any way involved with either a white matte or black video. This caused HUGE problems with my first AMV (this was before I knew the trick of exporting uncompressed files, vs. Huffy. when Huff goes bad) whose only "effect" is based on using white mattes.
I remember scaring my dog half to death a few times because that Fatal Error message would come up and I'd yell "Oh come ON!!!" (or the equivalent) while she was trying to take a nap under my computer desk. I think I accidentally kicked her once, too. She now doesn't twitch an ear when I start shouting at the computer, it's so routine. Still frightens my cat, though.
n/p Bauzi. I failed to dredge up some bonfire imagery, but as it turns out things took a different slant anyways. Looks like people are happier with their AMVs than I expected. hehe

Well I got technical issues. All the time >_> I don't think I've finished anything without having to solve an issue or 48 of them. It's mostly virtualdubmod, script and compression stuff. I've never really had any problems with Vegas
Otherwise, the sync textures of my videos are so peculiar they require so much technical work. It's so boring -__- Figuring out the pattern might take a long while too.

It's amazing how frustrating editing can be. I'm more experienced in doujinshi (though not very good) than with AMVs. I get damn frustrated when I break my pen repeatedly and then get ink all over my final draft! I just wanna take the entire thing and rip it into a million little pieces! ARGH! RIGHT BEFORE THE DAMN PRINTING DEADLINE!!! 3 TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED! 3 TIMES! 3 times I've wound up with nothing to sell... Having to start over again and make my... reader wait even longer for the issue to come out. As far has handling art tools goes, I'm a major clutz. Doujins are very stressful to make. At least for me that is.

No. I just suck. I broke my pen and knocked over my ink. Got it all over my final draft. I have no idea why I still draw. I mean, nobody likes my work... except maybe 1 person. The stories are good... the drawings suck... And I don't make novels because I'm no good at describing actions, objects etc. with words. I have to use pictures but I'm no good at drawing. Hmmm... Holy Crud! I just got an idea! I have a friend who does doujins! He's damn good too! I'll get some tips from him!ZephyrStar wrote:buy some better pens? what the hell are you using, a fountain quill? copic.
