I only put the project files on those things (and the occasional AMV for transport). Point being that project files should be saved often.SQ wrote: Well, usb drives aren't big enough for me. I work with all the vobs, and if you can't have everything in one spot, it's kind of worthless.
I'm going to disagree: I've never opened one, but I'd bet money that the drives in those external units are the same ones they sell separately. There's no reason for them to be different. (Granted, some might be installing refurbished or low-grade drives and trying to get away with it. But that's unlikely. There are so many on the market that people would have noticed by now.)SQ wrote:I had a 300gb external HD, and the thing with external HDs is, if you buy them external(and not place them in a tray yourself, like someone else mentioned) not only do they cost more, they can only write to the disk do many times, which is signifigantly less times than a normal, internal HD.
BTW, if it's just the drive that failed and not the case, you should be able to open up that external HD and replace the drive itself. You just need to get the same type (probably ATA 100 or 133). The size (GB) could be whatever you want. And if it's just the case that failed, you could pull out the drive and put it in a PC.
From what I've heard, a DVD-RAM is pre-formatted to behave just like a floppy disk or a hard drive. Which means it's a simple drag and drop to put files on the disc. There should be no need for burning software or the interface drivers (like Nero InCD) that are used for the RW type of discs.SQ wrote:I'll use DVD-RAM if I ever figure out how to use it properly xD
