1.Insomnia
2.Get an idea by watching animes and listening to some fancy music
3.Get possessed by the idea
4.Think about what I´d focus on in the video
5.Not find an answer (Optional) ... this is where it ends very often
6.Fight for some freetime for badass editing
7.Notice that the Intro part is missing after I made 30 secs
8.Find out that the idea works out and continue
9.Try to get the final version onto a acceptable qualitylevel, so everbody won´t get eyecancer
10.Release
11.Wait for ops ... till I die (cause I don´t get to much)
The most fucking thing is to find out what you should rely on when you sync your video, cause it´s sometimes hard to hear an instument clearly enough to sync it right. And when there are some nice growl vocals and the instuments step into the background I often don´t quite know how to continue, since noone understands what the lyrics are textsync is impossible too. So I get slower and try to edit with the mood and that fails to often.
And the set up of the dramatic storyline is not easy either, altough I think it´s easier than most things which actually belong to the amv editing, since I plan before even think about really start a certain project. Everytime I watch an anime i think about how I could turn it into a great amv, and that often ruins the atmosphere (yes I´m not normal).

I have similar processes already mentioned here. My videos are more spur of the moment type ideas. For example Fighting For Your Love. I heard the New Found Glory version and said I know this song but it sounds different. And so I kept listening to it over and over again. And then I went ahead and thought of what character the song could describe. The voice sounded like it could have been Gourry trying to sing, and since he is sorta a knight I figure this could work. Why not a band that sounds like they came from the 80's and an anime that fits with that era. It's kinda hard to describe an exact process.
Usually
Step 1 - Listens to music until something gets me inspired.
Step 2 - Try to find a character or an anime that fits it.
Step 3 - Outline the video to tell a story, on paper, by writing out the lyrics and planning scenes.
Step 4 - Start capturing the footage.
Step 5 - Put the amv together.
Step 6 - Adding in special effects after the main story is told.
Step 7 - Touch up the rough spots of the video.
Step 8 - Final processing of the video.
That's the basic for me.
Just have fun and do it to what you want.

Roger that. Things I see in my head are never what they turn out to be, but when it's all said and done, I seem to love it nonetheless that it be different or not. For me, the quality of the final product is what's most important, whether it took u 2 or 200 hours, if the last product is great, what's there to say?Zarxrax wrote:Planning it out is definately the most important part. I hate it though so I often try to skip that part. But trust me, planning it out is worth it.
Usually I just listen to the song until I see something in my head. Once I've "seen" what I want to do, then I just sit down and try to make it. What I actually make is very rarely exactly like, or even close to what I see in my head, but when you have something definate that you are working towards, thats the main thing.
Normally, I listen out the song, feel it's rhythms and bass hits. I then slap down those never-before-used timeline markers to plan out "song sections" with which to edit the amv. I sometimes do the lyric parts first, since they're easier. Other times I'll do the lyricless interludes first since I can use any footage I want with them almost. [nothing random mind you, I still stick to the rhythm of the beat *most importante*]
When I put in that final clip [epic moment] I export and pray that it's not a piece of junk when it all fits together. Procrastinating is my worst trait for amv editing and sometimes I wonder if people care. Perhaps I should release the tiny beta of my current work [barely 0:18 but what an eyeful it can be]
I usually only consult myself before releasing final product. Is everything there? blah blah blah. I'd rather not have someone "confirm my coolness" to a vid before I release it. Unless it was a joint project of sorts.
None of my vids are cool anyway so who cares? lol
At any rate, for shameless plugging purposes, I ask that some of ya'll take a gander at my "major works" in chronological release order and tell me if my progress is awesome crap or stinky crap.

I can see how storyboarding would be helpful in letting you remember what each scene you want to use looks like, but I don't thiink I would try it, don't want to take the time to draw all of those little pictures.
There's usually a problem with trying to do more than one project at a time, for obvious reasons. Trying to commit yourself to one video, and losing interest in it while doing another can be frustrating. I tend to do one project at a time. This way I put all of my concentration on that project and worry about another when I'm done with the first one. I also don't like the idea of posting a preview of a project before it's anywhere near completed. If an AMVer can't finish it for some reason, everyone who was looking forward to it would probably be pretty disappointed. I'm not saying that these ideas are bad or cant' work, this is just personal prefference.

Now wait a minute! YES! This is the best idea ever! Why didn't I ever think of it? Doing it this way will save me a butt load of time!bum wrote:Find and download a good, relatively unknown amv. Edit out any credits to the editor and add my own. Upload amv as mine.
