I love writing comments and love reading them.

It's the people who degrade a video when a problem is easily explained in the comments that irks me. :x

i think there is a great need for more comments because:

i often look through the AMV announcements forum and theres always some new links, however the majority of these only have a song title and anime on the info page, i'd just like to know what characters are in the video, what part of the anime if it's a longer series, and some sort of vague theme beyond "action, serious" as those two words alone mean nothing.

so eveyone should at least have some basic info on the AMVs page, not just anime & song.

To prove the statement false, one would have to make a great video and not give it a writeup.

I always figured AMVs are kinda like jokes, if you gotta explain it then it sucks. I always have problems with comments for this reason, either you understood the video or you didn't and nothing I can say will change that.

This AMV has only a short writeup that says absolutely nothing about the video itself. Obviously not worth watching.

Preach it brother!

I warned in my 'Ode to Idiots' (appropriate name BTW) comments that the song was 9 minutes long. 2 of my opinions griped "song is too long". DUH!!! I told them, but Noooooo, they didn't read.

So true. A disclaimer about a video doing something, (if normally a detractor) is probably done for effect. This is for the video's concept.

Why on earth would one complain about the foundation of a video that they decided to watch? If the concept was misrepresented, then I could see a grievance.[/i]

A disclaimer doesn't excuse your video from criticism. If I wrote: "this video has bad points" in the comments, that doesn't prohibit people from listing bad points in the opinions.

likewise, no one would be able to criticize Tom the Fish's videos or doki's "This Video Sucks."

You are right. Pointing out the bad points is alright. The situations I am referring to arise from this type of senario...

Creator: My video has a redundant segment (first instance 3:07-3:12, taken from FLCL) that is purposefully overused to accentuate the song artists overemphasis on power chords.

Random Viewer: That video was odd, why did you keep showing the same clip over and over again. It was annoying.

downwithpants makes a good point for his senario, and mine is independent of that.

I rarely read descriptions before watching videos.

That said, I try to write extensive descriptions for my vids which consists of two well-separated sections, one as general introduction, other as technical detail and source explaination.

Why?

So anyone who, for some reason or other, wants to know more about the video, they have a wealth of information available without needing to ask me.

It's optional reading, if you like. I'm interested in you seeing the video; if you don't want to read about it, it's fine by me. If you want to read about it, there you go.
