#2. Standard romance videos. AMG and such. Cute, but after a while they all start to look the same to me.
That's what it means here..in my post..I just abbrevated (sp?) it... which is also why I said it was "off the beaten path" of the usual SRV's

Hmm..well if you're looking for something a little off the beaten path of SRV's but still romance you might try these...These Angel Hearts by Cyanna it's a really good one IMHO..
*blushes with Rozard* Thank you. ^_^

But now I feel a bit like a total idiot. What does SRV stand for anyway? "Spoiler Romance Vid" or something?
Well, going back to the original post...

Nice... 8)

Part one : I'm pretty open to almost every type of video. As long as it's good I can recognize it as so. But I try to avoid listening to the same song on different videos...it throws off the emotion I felt with the other ones for some reason. That's why I really enjoy originality in AMVs. *laughs at his own first video that makes him seem like a hypocrite* I stay away from too many instrumentals, but lately I've been watching quite a few and they've all be really good. So that's starting to change for me. I view AMVs of anime's I haven't seen, but spoilers do suck - there's always a downside.

Part two :

Mecha: I don't watch any...at least not yet. But if anyone knows of really good ones I'm willing.

Romance: I actually like these a lot so far. But I think I've only seen about three.

Horror: I had many doubts in this genre. But I saw "The Wasteland" by Otohiko and I thought it was beautifully done. And it was even instrumental! Two things I don't really like...and I loved the video *points to his favorites list*. It scared the crap out of me, so I considered it horror. I am sorry if it's not actually in that category.

That was probably me. I love dark anime such as Lain or NTHT, and by extention I like dark videos.

Here's my take on the genre of "Horror," with examples:

What many people consider horror I think of as action. There are only a few action videos that are emotionally powerful enough for me to consider horror. I just saw "faces of Death" and I loved the beginning but all the Seizureistic gore put me off. Same thing with Horror movies, I don't watch slasher films because I refuse to pay to be nauseated. Now, "From Hell" there's a real horror movie. You don't need blood to make a horrifying video. Most of my favorites have little or no blood.

What it comes down to is that I like psychological horror, aka "dark" videos, not gore.

The best dark videos have slow songs, and powerful visuals. They can be terrifying but more often are not. They make you think or leave you shaken. Many of them are instrumental and instead of beat synch or lyric synch, they make heavy use of mood synch or occasionally musical synch (using visuals to represent instruments.) There are some that follow lyrics though, most notably the excellent Haunted. Many of them are more depressing than anything, such as endure.

However they can be very disturbing as well. Lain - Resident Evil and Forbidden Memories are both good examples of this. Also forbidden memories shows that you don't need a sad song to make a dark video, a happy song with dark visuals can be terrifying. Shinneneko is the extreme example of this (Do not watch this video if you value your sanity.)

There are many kinds of dark video but the key is powerful emotions other than the adrenaline of action vids or the sedimentilisim of romance vids. It can even be bittersweet like Imagine.

Other examples:
Charcoal Skeched Dreams
Zombie
The Bird Who Flew To Far
Cry Little Idol
Anger Management

...If it doesn't make you question you sanity, why watch it?

Other genres that I like that I don't see to often are videos that significantly change the context of the images, and more traditionally artistic videos (I know that all AMV's are artistic but this is the only name I could come up with.) If you like any of the "artistic" videos, Check out the upcoming fantasia project, lot's of good videos being made for that. Here’s a couple of examples.

Videos that make their own story:
Transcending Love
What Romance Entails
Fallen Angel

"Artistic" videos:
The Wasteland
Solace in Destruction
Arima Sinjikun

Well, hope I gave enough examples.
