I just have to say, please please please do not have an hour-long AMV of random clips. I would get bored so fast it's not even funny. The DDR project avoids this by having disastrously catchy tunes and the top editors EVAR!!11!.
An hour of random clips = bad.
I'd go with 2), except why change the music?
Arg, this is giving me ideas, nooo. heh. I've always meant to do a trailer for a writing project of mine using anime charas "cast" as the story charas... bad bad have enough to do already.

T_T . . is this Sherli - the Loon . from Buster & Bab's LoonyToons ?
Sherli made a Film lasting 23hrs 17minutes and had people trying to unbuckle their seat-belts after the first 30 seconds !!
. . . in the end, the only way anyone knew it was over was because the House Lights came back-on T_T
at the end of the Program, Daffy Jr. made a 5 second film - which won him the Winning Film Makers Award, "Its Short!" ^^

I do not know how to rip from DVD yet. I download anime that are fan-subbed. So nearly all my anime have english subtitles in them.
I know having subtitles in AMVs are no-no and considered by some as taboo. Maybe I'll make my first long AMV with subtitles and go from there. I'm sure the anime otakus will forgive me and tolerate the subtitles since they love anime so much and are such forgiving peoples
I have a PIII 800Mhz machine and working on it is somewhat bittersweet. I can do the things I want, but it takes it some time. Are there any DVD ripping programs out there that rips them fairly quickly? I'd do the research, but I don't feel like spending a whole day searching around for feedback on what's a good DVD ripping tool. I'll probably end up doing it anyhow.
But back to the AMV itself. I will have to think this through and set the tone and beats to match the anime storyline.
At first, I thought it'd be great to make a very long AMV just for anime sake and just show it at parties and gatherings and such, just for fun. I was thinking about throwing together some anime scenes from various anime and interleaving the music and be done with it. Just a fun project. And when I'm a seasoned veteran AMV guru like you all, I thought I could do the voice timing and beats and stuff.
Then the ideas were posted and it's just making me want to get it right the first time, but that takes a lot of time and that's just something I don't have much of.
I know peeps are doing there own thing now and found out there are long AMVs out there, but do not know where to download them to see how they look and what I need to look out for. I did find the DDR Project, but they're not free. *SIGH* So I'm basing my knowledge on the AMV's I have seen, especially MI Projects. That was really cool to say the least. So since peeps are busy with their own projects, I'll go at this with me, myself, and I. I'm sure the three of us can handle things.
Thanx for the encouragements.

You can catch DDR2 on DVD; DDR1 is coming out soon, and DDR3 will be at AWA9, if you can catch that.Lavondyss wrote: I know peeps are doing there own thing now and found out there are long AMVs out there, but do not know where to download them to see how they look and what I need to look out for. If you are going to be there, you can laugh at my work on the project :/

You might have to make a few vids by yourself (alone) before starting a collaborative project. Managing such a thing is not easy...I mean, if you don't know how to rip a DVD, maybe you are not aware of all these fps, interalcing, resolution, codecs problems that occur when you work with other creators... (my suggestion : read A&E's guide if you didn't do it yet...)Lavondyss wrote:I do not know how to rip from DVD yet. I download anime that are fan-subbed. They are.Lavondyss wrote: I did find the DDR Project, but they're not free.
They are availalbe at the Distribution Center (see the sticky post on the forum)
And you can also download them from Waldo's ftp, but I lost the adress again

Well, of course, a DivX is not as good as the DVD...

I've done somehting like this before, for my second ever AMV(stop laughing... I know it wasn't good.. >.>)
Anyway, my opinion is that it doesn't have to be a multieditor prohect, and if it was, that'd be cool, but it doesn't have to be.
However, if you do this yourself, it's oging to be a hell of a lot of work.
And the second thing is, since you said you were oging to display it at anime club(s) to introduce people to anime, the line I tended to follow with my long vid was this:
- Have a caption at beginning saying the video is a demo for the specified anime.
- During the song(s) used, choose random intervals for certain anime. Choose a spot to place the title of the anime somewhere, so the audience knows you're now switching to describe a different anime. In that time, you can do whatever you want with the anime. Character profile, drama, summary of the anime, whatever you like best.
- Repeat until you've covered all the anime you want.
And my suggestion for a song is don't use techno.
Most techno is very annoyingly reptitive. Regardless if the video is the best video ever, the music just gets really boring to listen to after awhile.
Not to mention that techno videos are usually very fast-paced, and are hell to synch to, anyway.
Whoever suggested that classical idea(Vegita?), I'd say to just go with that.
Classical is more relaxed, not as hard to synch with(IMO), and doesn't get boring to listen to because of repetitivity.
However, due to the association most people have with classical music and sleep, you might want to choose a song that isn't to calm and quiet...
