no it's directly related to this discussion. Besides it's not a full on vendetta, it's just me bein an 'ass' (though if you read my ops their probably some of the most polite I'd given ^_^). And again directly related (in that indirect sort of way) as in vets of YT coming over here and treating it like YT. We just can't have that!

Some girl having a lot of sailor moon videos is not related to our comment system being outdated. At. All.

So, it's actually completely unrelated. And if you mean in this case, "putting up large numbers of bad videos that no one's going to watch", how is this different from what we have already? How is one person putting up 200 presumably bad Sailor Moon videos different from the current model, where 20 users each put up 10 bad Naruto and/or Bleach videos? There are almost 175,000 videos listed currently. By Sturgeon's Law, nearly all of them are crap. Another 230 or so isn't going to make a difference. Unless this one person here represents not an outlier but a trend -- which is in no way proven -- and this influx of large-volume uploads leads to both actual bandwidth use (not likely) and no donations at all, it's nothing to be concerned about.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.

I have never seen a user who in the span of a few days, uploads 200 videos. even if he/ she had made those videos over the last few years. I'm simply saying (speaking only for myself, but as a donator I help pay too o.0 not mentioning how MUCH I pay lol... that'd be embarrassing -_-). I'm saying if one user has 200 videos (take yours) without one that gets downloaded 500 times a day does that make you less worthy than say, Koopiskeva? Maybe, but not much o.o as I said I never seen somebody offer that many videos in that short of time (never mind they'll ALWAYS be on there ^_^) ie they haven't been a member for 5 years! They haven't contributed as much as you supposedly have. I don't think a noob deserves 2 gigs of server space end of story. No Ileia, it doesn't matter that they are SM vids, I specifically said I wouldn't care if they were Naruto or DBZ, I simply see no logic in noobs coming in and stressing the servers like this when us vets have to take all the complaints and possibly lose hosting if this continues! The site is all ready 'in trouble' if we offer to more ppl like this we'll be run out of buisness, simple as that,

Secondly you ask what's the dif btwn one noob putting up 200 vids and 50 noobs putting up 4 vids each. Well with 50 noobs maybe we can get 5 buck donation out of each one of them. Try getting 250 bucks out of 1 noob?? good luck.

This idea you're suggesting of a person having to somehow 'earn' their ability to use local hosting is not the reason hosting was implemented in the first place, nor is the idea that 'well, you can only have X amount of storage space on our server; if you use it up, tough shit, sorry'. It actually goes right against the very reason the Dangling Carrot/Golden Donut exists.

And really, I doubt any noob that is the embodiment of what you're making them out to be would donate anything. So it wouldn't matter how many of them there are.

Not to mention that crappy videos don't get downloaded like Euphoria and other well-edited videos do. Even the non-blockbuster videos that are still well-edited plateau early and fade into the background. Out of the videos I have on LOCAL, only three or four of them have even broken the 500 downloads mark (and the ones that did were released 5 or 6 years ago), with most not even having gotten past 250 downloads. Sure, that may just be because I don't actively participate in the con scene or op exchange anymore and therefore don't get the levels of exposure needed for huge #'s of downloads, but I would find it hard to believe that there isn't at least some point by which things level off for those that do. But crappy videos are not going to get that exposure in the first place, in the face of the way the Org is set up to operate, anyway.

While this is true, I personally believe Dangling Carrot/Golden Donut has been a failure. I was really excited by it. No more capping my FTP server when I was nearing my university bandwidth limit. Now with how badly Golden Donut is abused, and how stupid QCs and stars are, AND how unnecessary previews are (nice, at times, but necessary), I'm frankly just sick of the whole thing and wish it would go away. Knowname isn't perhaps the most articulate advocate for these views, but I can't say I don't share certain sentiments with him.

Dood. Look at your bandwidth stats page. Check how many times your videos have been downloaded in the past year, and what the total usage is. Extrapolate that. Calm down. The vast majority of videos on the .org are not downloaded regularly, or even often. While hosting space is not free, it is not generally as expensive, byte for byte, as bandwidth. The .org may have difficulties because of the popular videos that we have currently; adding a relatively trivial number of videos that nobody, statistically, is going to watch is not going to weigh in on that.

Collectively, maybe Kionion has a point and this isn't sustainable. But if this is the case, the damage is already done, and adding this particular brick or barrowload of bricks is not pushing us past any magical tipping point.

Good thing about that is that unlike bandwith, space is 'permanent' and it's not like as the Org has more videos the price will be bigger; yes, I know that hard drives don't cost pennies, but good thing that as time passes on, they are getting cheaper. Bandwith would be a bigger problem instead, but since those videos aren't that famous, they won't generate a big fuss in the server. That's the same problem Youtube is actually having, the storage *is* always something important to take care of, but the bandwith costs are breaking them down. Unless you get a rage of 1000 amvs of 100mb each, I believe it will be alright.
I actually think I made the same post than Kai Stromler  , in any case, I don't think that storage could be a big problem to the Org now, and in that case, there could be some kind of solutions, like re-encoding videos of people that no longer login on for a long time, limiting period between uploads, etc. although I don't think it would be a bright idea to do here considering the real purpose of the site of hosting every possible AMV.

thanks for making me sad (?)

pd: how do you check the total downloads for an AMV? I can only see in a year, or previous year.
