i believe at least one person round here uses 4...

i would definitely consider a really good quality single 24"+ over a pair of crappy budget ones...

having said that, i got the cheapo twins and still never have enough space :(

Think about it this way, single monitors are like going through life using just one arm. Duel monitors allows you to use both arms. Sure, you can live life with one arm, but it's a hell of a lot better with two.
But you still have only one mouse, so wouldn't the mouse function as the arm in this analogy?

I've been using dual monitors for quite a while and after I got used to the extra real-estate I started wondering how I was ever able to handle using only 1. Now that I am forced to use only 1 monitor at work having to multi-task almost as much as I do at home I really understand how use full that second monitor really is.

Grant it, I wouldn't mind getting a 24" or bigger LCD and running at an insanely high resolution. But I think even then I would still want a 2nd monitor if only to be used as a preview or something.

Right now I'm looking into finding desk space for 1-2 more monitors so I can finally get my 5 monitor setup going. (if you count my TV I already run 3)

The dual monitors helps especially when I'm working in 6.5 as I use one screen for the ridiculously complex timelines I seem to end up with.

For AE, I also find it very useful and tend to do my masking in the second monitor.

In pro, I usually have the timeline and tools in the second monitor.

However, when I'm at work in avid, I haven't really used the other window for anything other then keeping my script and directions in.....

Also (sorry for the double post.) Yes I use it for everyday use too. It's like having a bigger desk to work on. I love when new people come over and marvel at how I can move the curser from one screen to another.....then I pull a window over to the other monitor and they think I'm magic LOL For that effect alone, it's worth it :D

If I had the room and the money for dual monitors, I'd use them. :?

For editing i would prefer 3 by now but only have dual. Still they are very useful ...

Yep ... very much the same here!

dual 29" (3840x1200)
for editing, it really is 'wonderful' to have more than one.
I usually have my output monitor on the 2nd monitor.

i have to write up lab reports every single day, and it helps to have the report up on one side and my data on another side.
