I don't know about this particular situation, [it looks like frustration over mistaken identity... Anime Hell vs AMV Hell...] but when people say they don't think amv's are interesting, I follow up with two questions:

Do they like Anime?
Do they like Music?

If they say yes to both, it's likely they haven't come across anything that appeals to their tastes; or they don't really have a strong attachment to either. For example, a lot of people would say they like music, but don't really know a thing about it. Naturally, amv's won't appeal to them.

If they don't have much interest in either, I would have to convince them that Anime is good... that Music is good... and ultimately that AMVs are good. Explaining all of this to them might not change their opinion, but it might affect their outward expression... after all, forming an opinion based on little exposure to Anime, Music, and AMV's wouldn't be fair... even if they are entitled to do so.

Of course, everything I've said is based on my firm belief that it's
impossible to hate AMV's if you like Anime and Music, and have sampled enough.

so yeah, if I cared about their opinion to begin with... I'd explain that to them.

I've been saying for years now that I hate this hobby and the people in it. Most people seem to deal with it by either ignoring me or laughing with (or at) me. Seems to work fairly well for the most part.

ehh people are free to like and dislike what they want. Just because their tastes conflict with your own doesnt mean that they're horrible people :\

You deal with haters pretty much the same way as you deal with flamers and people who screw you over; you just simply forget about it and move on. No point in hating others for hating you or something you value. But however you like it. If you want to sit bitterly in the corner with a rain cloud above your head, then it's your choice. Personally I'd rather just let it be. People have their opinions, but opinions are only opinions and shouldn't grow to be big obstacles between people.

Seriously, this has happened before. Has it ever damaged our hobby? Signs point to no.
If there are threats to AMVing, people in the anime fandom expressing negative opinions about them are not one of them.

Hell, if i wasn't making amvs, for sure I'd be making fun of people who make them ... seriously, think about how freakin nerdy we must be to even be doing this. We're just begging for it if you ask me.
But you know what? Fuck it. Do what you like, if someone else has a problem with it, then fuck 'em.
