Sometimes I do wonder if people come here from other AMV sites around VCA time to form a voting bloc of sorts...
EDIT: I mean members who are primarily members of other AMV communities, who aren't really active around here but do put in votes for the VCAs every year. It's not against the rules as long as they joined the site before a specific date. Since they're not as active here, they're less likely to have already seen some of the American entries. And as we know, people voting for their favorite videos without having seen the competitors has always been a weakness of the VCAs.
Solution 1: level the playing field by making it easier for voters to watch ALL the entries
Solution 2: make better videos?

This might be too tight-fisted and tyrannical, illogical and unpalatable (not to mention unworkable), but there was discussion of making bittorrent packages available for download this/next year. If you started this at the semifinalist stage, that would at least ensure that anyone who intends to vote for a video in a certain category has ALL the videos in front of them. If they don't watch, then at least there would be almost no excuse for not doing so, the 'Org having made it abundantly clear that they are expected to watch everything if they choose to vote in a specific category.jasper-isis wrote:Sometimes I do wonder if people come here from other AMV sites around VCA time to form a voting bloc of sorts...

This could be done again at the finalist stage, and as far as that goes, you'd be able to get a little data about how many people are ONLY dling the finalists vs. downloading the semifinalists. Not sure if you could keep track of who does both and sort them out further on your end, but it would be very interesting to look at that kind of thing (ok, I think it would be interesting...
