Dude, learn how to read and to edit.
We've established all that.
And that is an e-mail from the AMV coordinator, from the e-mail address found on the Kei-kon website. So, unless you can prove otherwise, it's legit.
As for the 'contest,' the sources that told me about Kei-kon all said it was for a "contest". I, having never been to Kei-kon, naturally have to assume it's a contest where AMVs are submitted by the creator. Now that I've gotten the right information (i.e, the AMV Smackdown being AMVs chosen from the web, and not AMVs submitted by those that made them), it's all gravy.

Irrelevant - you do own your edits. Just because you think it's hypocrisy doesn't make it any less of a valid position.lestheanimesarge wrote:There's a nice thread here about watermarking amvs.

That's not really a legit contest then.hasteroth wrote:They DO just play videosOtohiko wrote:Didn't someone from Kei-con come here just earlier looking for videos to play/information on videos? I wonder if they had the proper licensing rights to actually play the music in a group setting...

I don't think hypocracy is relevant, as for edits, who ever said I was interested.
Just pointing out a simple reality to the person. They can accept it, or not, won't adjust my day regardless of how they take it though.

Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

I had this happen once. My issue wasn't that the video had been taken or shown, but rather that it was a beta. The video wasn't finished, and it let the cat out of the bag.
My main betatester happened to be at that con and expressed surprise I had finished it without telling her.
Of course, I hadn't.
I never did care enough to start giving the fifth degree to the people I had sent the beta too. It didn't win, and I didn't care.

Just dropping a line as a Kei-kon staffer:
We at Kei-kon love AMVs and really enjoy showing them at our con. Traditionally we've been very small with limited attendence - this year we reached just under 1000, mostly teenagers and young adults. If we only showed AMVs that we made and submitted for Kei-kon, we'd only get to show three and few of them would be as great as the ones we find online. We never 'steal' anything, the idea being that if they are published on the web by their author then I for one can't understand why said author would object to them being screened for our con audience unless they were under the mistaken impression that someone else was claiming credit. Our audience and staff all understand that these videos weren't made or submitted for Kei-kon but instead are a celebration of the best we've found and any "winners", based on simple votes, are considered by no fewer than 500 people to be the "best of the best" of what's out there.
I won't speak for the rest of the con staffers when I say that if you publish it online, you shouldn't be surprised if other people see it but I know Kei-kon would never endorse or allow anything to be submitted under false pretenses - we check to make sure that even if our AMV "contest" is unconventional, that it is respectful of the work and talent involved in creating the AMVs we show.
This isn't directed at anyone worried that their work was 'stolen' because that seems like a very legitimate concern to me, but I will say that it is my own personal opinion that if you don't want your AMV to be seen by anyone, it would be safer not to post it at all, since it seems to me AMVs are meant to be enjoyed and above all, not taken too seriously. They are, after all, a celebration of entertainment and fandom - two things that, if unshared, are pretty much pointless.

Yeah i was gonna say.. You'd think a con staff running an AMV session would be smart enough to check this site with their entries regardless, which would defeat the purpose. Especially for those who start threads in the contest forum.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

Well like staffer dude up there said, I am perfectly, 100% fine with (my) AMVs being shown. As a matter of fact, I'm ecstatic. It's nuts to think that my AMV was played in front of ~500(?) people.
My original concern was that somebody had taken it from the site and was submitting it as their own work for a contest in which they had some gain (whether it be fame, prize, whatever).
Since all I had to go on was a few accounts by people who were unfortunately mistaken (and I was unaware of Kei-kons types of events [AMV Smackdown for example]), I was led to believe that the former had happened-- that someone else was claiming the work as their own.
Since that isn't the case, and they just choose AMVs they like to show off to the crowd, I am extremely pleased that my AMV-- my 2nd one ever, no less, was liked enough to be selected for showing.
If you're skimming, read this: Stealing = bad, nobody stole, so it = good.
Thanks Kei-kon staffer man! Or possibly woman! (Who knows!)
