Hmm well Im only in the 7th grade and my editing skills have improved and 5 years from now(at the end of my high school) i'll probably be looking for video editing programs for tv shows and such to pay for college since I already have 2 years free thanks to the New York City Honors Program.

You'll find a number of computer science types, too.

Yes, guilty as charged.

hehe, I'm kind of a reverse case. People always used to tell me I should be an art major, but I detested the idea of being a starving artist (I'm old...this was back before the Internet was in 95% of households in America...on three computers) or doing commercial design. So I was a history major.

Then I wound up working at a newspaper (I detest journalism).

Then I got fed up and decided to exploit my anime/AMV hobbies' creative nature and just go for it. Now, thanks in no small part to these hobbies helping me to realize what I really love to do, I am a graphic designer.

So it shouldn't necessarily be about AMVs helping you on paper (I was always very careful in school to keep quiet about my dabblings) as much as identifying in your own mind how important having a creative career would be and how successful you might be. If you suck as a designer you're not going to get very far, no matter how badly you want to. :)

Yeah, to add on to what Driftroot said, if graphic design is what you want to get into, you just gotta keep drawing art and creating new concepts for art and storylines to get awesome at it. College's and businesses love people with creative minds. So, AMVs could definitely help you as a hobby to brush up on your multimedia skills as well. If you were to look into multimedia studies, filming and editing, or audio editing, AMV's can sharpen your creativeness and your ability to edit the right parts of film or music. But as trythil said, it may not be a good idea to put on your college application that you do said things. I think you could say that you enjoy experimenting with different types of media, editing techniques, and audio/visual displays.

But all in all, it's ultimately your choice. Just make sure that, in the end, you're doing something that you truly enjoy doing.
I can claim the title as being the first person on a-m-v.org to submit an AMV with the artist KJ-52 on it. Yay. Hahaha.
Where my jello? I need it to go with my Cola, Rice, Puddin, Steak, macoroni, apple, peanut butter, plastic, baking soda, and cheese sandwhich!

Hell, I'm going to college for creative writing and Interactive Multimedia. So for me my AMVs are like a progressive portfolio of my video editing capability. After showing this to a couple of my friends who make movies, they wanted me to help them edit their movies. I mean you could easily get a spot in the Movies, TV or anything of that sort with the right skill level and qualifications. Though I do think I'll stick to writing for a while, I wanna find an artist to try and make a comic book.
