If he wants to download clips, I don't care, but he has to do it ON HIS OWN.
Well if you didn't want to help him, you shouldn't have even posted here...
JustAnOrdinaryPanda, you might look at all these comments as unhelpful attacks against a NewB trying to get himself established. The truth is that, overall, this community generally frowns on people who don't want to seriously invest some money into the making of their AMVs--even their first one. Informing a newB that they should spend some money instead of looking to get free stuff from the community might sound rude, but it is true, and I see nothing wrong with telling a NewB the truth. This is not a cheap hobby, and if you are cheap and don't want to invest some money into getting the most basic of tools needed before starting, then people will likely figure that you are merely another NewB who is going to generate crap and shouldn't be taken seriously. This is a stigma that NewBs should strive to avoid, and there is little wrong with telling a NewB this.

I agree! I say we get the bastard templated! n00bies need direction. And nothing works better than negative reinforcement. In the end, if he gets templated to show him what a n00b he is, the negative reinforcement might fuel him to prove us all wrong. And deliver a spite-driven video. Which in the end, would turn out great. The essence of art is emotion. I say template the bastard.

Ok, EarthCurrent, most of your points I've already covered anyway, so just look back over the thread. I'd already mentioned that it's frowned upon, because they're not willing to spend money on it whilst many people here are. Although I fail to see why, apart from Phades mention in the rules, this is not the sole existence of AMVs on the internet, whilst I admit it is the largest.

I don't think this Newbie was looking to 'get in' with the community, more to be able to make AMVs with more ease. I don't think people believing he's going to make crap will bother him if he's trying to make a good video. We've already given him information on why he shouldn't have asked and etc. This is all just unneccessary.

Panda, I maybe you have quite realized the ludicrousy of your position on this whole thing.

I will reiterate it again: Anime is not a right, it's a privilege.

Sure he can download footage, download Premiere, and then make an AMV. He can also steal a car, embezzle money, buy himself a nice ditzy blond girlfriend to get himself a life.
Both are wholly illegal. And we do not condone wholly illegal activities on this site. Notice the word "wholly" in there - please don't turn this into an argument on AMV's legality, it has no place in this thread so don't use it as a justification for piracy.

Just as klinky and kthulu have said - you make a choice. You pick and choose what it is you want to spend your money on, and unless you're rich/lucky you can't have everything. I want to import R2 DVDs of all the good new stuff coming out, but I can't afford it, so I deal with the Region 1 releases or I forego other things and save up to buy the imports.
I don't steal them!
And just because you can't get something is no justification for stealing.

Panda - your position is not a defensible one. You are stuck in Helm's Deep, and there ain't no Galdalf coming over the hill at dawn to save you.

Erm, nice nerdy analogy there. :?

I'm not trying to justify their pirating of downloading video footage, it is their choice afterall, although this may not be a discussion about the legality of AMVs, its very relevant as it would put you in a very hypocritical position. I have already told him if he wants to use illegal pirated footage for AMVs do not associate them with this site, in the least as respect for Phades rules.

I don't believe I'm in a ludicrous position at all, I'm just pointing certain things out. I've made a choice to not put money into anime I may not like, and I've downloaded anime illegally, although that is my choice and I do not associate it with this site at all, but that is not relevant to this topic. Unless you want to point fingers for acting illegally, in which case 'people in glass houses should not throw stones'.
