Of course. Alter the scoring system.

If you don't have server and source code access, then make a bunch of fake accounts and/or recruit a bunch of friends to rate your video with all 10s. It's worked in at least one instance.
Mr. Grim wrote: What does it take? Does it lie in the originality of the video? Mayeb the digital effects or music synch? Does it have anything to do with talent or is it just sheer determination and luck that make a great video?
No. See above.
Mr. Grim wrote: I just wonder about these things sometimes and it almost destroys my confidence. I've only produced one video and already I'm unsure if I want to keep trying.
If your sole drive to make these things is high numbers, then quitting is probably the best choice.

The main topic is can we top the biggest AMV's on the org? Yes it can be done, just a matter of is there someone who is willing to take the time and make an amv that is better than them. Does someone want to take the time and effort to make an amv that is honestly a awesome amv? These days all we have is the newbies (like me) who make mediocre amvs and dont take the time to make a good amv. i know i need to sit down and make an amv that is better than the ones i made before, when my work stops making me work 6 days a week, but to take the time and effort is hard for a lot of ppl. So...can it be done? yes. Will it be done sometime soon? Maybe.

You liberal asshats make me sick to my stomach. Why mess with the status quo? Why do you hate Koop? Why are his approval ratings dropping like bird shit on my sedan?

This is clearly a left-wing propaganda smear-campaign against what used to be one of the most beloved creators in AMVdom. I've had it up to here with your noob-hugging hippy progressionism. That AMV is there for a reason, folks. You people voted it into place, and now you want to usurp the very powers you unleashed? Where was this anti-Koop activism in 2003? When the members of AMV cheered this vid into invading the charts, I didn't see any protests and rallies THEN.

You might be considering voting Whisper of the Beast into lead in 2007. Very unpatriotic of you. This vid clearly caters to what the masses want in the way of: fan-relevant material, plot-based structuring, and decent editing. There weren't even any rectangles in this vid! What is wrong with you all?! I must warn you that by voting 10s for WotB is voting for the destruction of a-m-v.org. I must also note that ScorpionsULTD consists of multiple editors on a SINGLE account! How much sleazier can you get?

I blame noob-apologists and lobbyists in the end, who go around creating multiple accounts and upvoting things that shouldn't be [unless it's Euphoria]. This site is clearly filled with people who don't belong anywhere near anything involving politics. I'm here today to tell you:

Stand behind your choice!
DON'T CUT AND RUN!

Mr. Grim wrote:Take a look at the "Euphoria" video. It's practically AMV perfection.

you cannot make a good video in this day and age without getting dangerously close to someone else's design.

It just seems to me like the best are the best and it's been written in stone.
Points:

A lot of people actually hate Koops video. They say it's just a bunch of flying boxes. They blame his video for singlehandedly ruining lots of others. So the point here is that obviously perceptions will vary.

The problem with making a 'good' video is that if you are following a standard mold then.. yeah you're stuck. The idea is that you 'enjoy' your hobby right? So make videos that YOU like. If other people like them enough to give you awards and lots of money and free sex at conventions, then that's just a bonus.

The best videos will always be great, because they appeal to lots of people. Kevin Caldwells videos remain great even though technically there are much 'better' videos today.

So, don't lose heart. If you look at the top list, you'll notice that not all of the videos stay cemented on it. Euphoria stayed up there in large part to the massive number of opinions on it. That makes it very difficult to change the score compared to another video with 20 ops, where one all 0.0.0.0.0 op will alter the overall by a lot. Euphoria can largely ignore many of those.

Hate to sound "me too" since I mentioned it earlier in this thread, but really, Euphoria does not have the emotional impact that Kewp's other vids had on me. Some people rate the flashies as the best thing evar, but for me, it's heart. And while I do feel Euphoria had emotional impact, it just did not have near the amount in Perception or Waking Hour, both of which I adore. I even liked Damaged Rei Mix better than Euphoria. I recognize Euphoria for what it is, art. Just like high cinema I may not have fun watching, I have to recognize it for the skill and care involved in producing it, and I respect it for that.

Can it be done?

yeah. I'll do it. Just wait on it.
Actually, I just got around to watching that amv today (after two years of being on this site). And to be honest, I expected a bit more from an amv with over 1400 op's. I guess that's my fault for setting my expectations to high. Though it's not bad by any means, it definately tells me that you need more than just a really good amv to climb the rankings like that. For example, if an amv came out right this second that was as digitally impressive and "artisitic" as Euphoria, it probably will get a few days worth of attention on the anouncement thread, but I can practically guarantee it's just going to eventually get mixed in with the rest of the other amv's on this site.

At the very *least*, it's not going to rack up 1400 op's just by it's own intial announcement alone. IMO, amv's just as good as or better than Euphoria have already been released. It's already been done, over, and over, and over, again. But because they may not have entered any contests, or may have pushed there amv to be more widely known, it'll just have to remain what it is--a great unnoticed amv. Seems to happen all the time on this site.
