I think the reason this is becoming a huge issue is that a lot of narrow minded people, mostly fans, answer that question: "no."Corran wrote:Easy answer: Do you enjoy any videos without effects?ashiteruSweetSurrender wrote:I was just wondering if an AMV can still be worth something even though it dosent have speacial effects...

A very wise and somewhat sexually overstimulated editor who will remain unnamed (koop) once told me a long time ago (before u4ia) that, "It's not what you got, it's what you can produce with what you got". Smart man.
As for my person taste in effect usage? See sig.

The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

Will you enjoy making it? Then it's worth something.ashiteruSweetSurrender wrote:I have WMM2 and I was just wondering if an AMV can still be worth something even though it dosent have speacial effects...
Fuck everyone else. They can watch or not, as they like. It takes a whole four minutes of their time. You, on the other hand, are going to spend several hours, days, weeks, months (and in some insane cases, years) on this video. Who do you think you should be working to please? Do the math.
That's assuming you're in this to make AMVs and have fun. If you're in this to be internet-popular or make people like you, then that's another matter.
Regardless, it's not whether you use effects or not, but how you use the tools that you decide to use. If you use tons of effects badly, your video will suck. If you use a lack of effects badly, your video will suck. Or, you could use what you have to the best of your ability, and you have a chance of making some decent product.
Or, you could say "fuck it" to "decent product" and just enjoy yourself, which is what I've done. I'm not internet-popular, but I've had a lot of fun with what I do.
That's Granny's sermon, children, now I need sleep.

Seriously.
There are alot good videos without any effects. And in my opinion it´s much more difficult to make a good video without effects becasue you need more skill and more feeling for the music and the flow of the video cause you can´t rely on some effects you´ve done with paint so everybody says "ohhh what a nice effect, I`ll give it an all 10 op". I use some effects and I´ll improve with that for sure, but effects are no deal. Get some of Rubyeye´s, SSJVegita0609´s or Bote´s mvs and be witness of the truth of no great effects but an awesome video.
