Yeah, right. Most "special digital effects" that I've seen in AMVs were all cheap pulls done from ass raping the default transitions in Adobe AfterEffects. Lip synching, at least head motion and background motion lip synching is EXTREMELY hard to do, in fact in some respects I'd go so far as to say it IS the most difficult effect to pull off. Mostly because of all the long drawn out redundant math that needs to be done to integrate the mouth movement durations into the head movement durations. Otherwise it'll wind up looking all jerky. Even doing scene splitting and scene manipulation isn't as hard to do because all that can be done with green screens and overlays. About the only thing that I would say is harder, and so far as far as I know I'm the only one to have actually done it, is creating animation sequences from scratch. Like in my Forever AMV where I make Sakura suck her thumb, or the once scene where I edited out Tomoyo and edited in her mom. To match the scene precisely though I had to take an original static image of her mom, split it apart into various sections (her hair, her face, her clothes, her arm, her forearm, and her hand), put each of them into their own layer and then each one had to be manipulated, moved and rotated just right to create a seamless flow of movement. That one lil scene in Forever (which also includes head motion lip synching), that is only about 5 seconds long, took me nearly a month to complete. So don't tell me that ass raping the default transitions in AfterEffects takes more effort.

Is there not a post you make that doesn't belittle other people's videos to prmote your own? Everything you post revolves around you saying someone sucks and then reffering them too one of your videos as an example of quality.

Anyways, I say lip syncing is best done in character profiles, especially if you can picture the character actually singing the song (meaning the lyrics are something that the character may be thinking). I don't like pointless lip syncing, in fact for me its worse than watching pointless action.

You must not read very many of my posts. In fact the last couple posts I made were in regards to Star Trek and how Ferengi seem to have ass heads.

And I don't believe I've ever told anyone their AMVs sucked. In fact the only AMV I've even mentioned other than my own in the past few weeks was Eternal Damnation. And yet despite the fact that I said it flash bang style, I still said it was one of the best, if not THE best Hellsing AMV and that it was also in fact better than mine.

Actually I've made around 10 and all of them have gotten averages of around 8+...and that's AFTER I get at least one fuck head who comes along and gives me all 1s cause I'm not the nicest kid on the proverbial playground. So uh, yeah, I DO know what the fuck I'm talking about, and if you'd like, Cupcake you can try and compare your work to mine...anytime. ^_^

I suppose it depends on how much you know. I mean I've seen some people do certain digital effects by hand, frame by frame, when they can just as easily be done with a transition effect. In my AMV Forever, when her mom's ghost appears, I did that effect with all the tiny lense flares by hand, but it really didn't take more than an hour. I suppose it depends on your perspective. If you've never done any straight from scratch reanimation then I suppose you might not know. *shrugs*

My point is, lip sync is a digital effect and it can be easier or harder than other effects.. It all depends on what your doing. I found lip synicing in one of my videos to be easy for what I needed it for, but there are instances where I can see it to be extreamly difficult. Also, transitions are just one very small form of digital effects. Your basically talking about methodology to an effect rather than difficulty... And not all digital effects are easy to do and be convincing or have the desired effect..

I've done a LOT of digital manipulation and it never gets any easier in what new things I want to try, so I wouldn't say its easy even if you've done them. It that was the case, them digitial effects in movies would be childplay by now

And despite all of that, the video was quite lacking in substance :\ Don't get me wrong, I'd give you props for the effort put into it, but the final product isn't as "quallity" as many videos that consist of nothing more than straight cuts and fades/crossfades. I'd go so far as to say that your most recently available outlaw star vid is better than Forever despite it's "consistency" with footage usage and being mostly just an action vid.

No, I don't think you've ever told someone directly that their videos suck, since you don't seem to have the balls to do that. You'd rather put their video in the "lower editing class" like you demonstrated in a post below.

1. Random Cuts, where random video, even if it fits the theme is just slapped in with music, but there's no cohesion or symmetry with the body of the music (lyrics, beat, melody, etc).

2. Flash Bang, where flashes and scene skips are used to forcibly match the animation into the cohesion of the music. A good example is Euphoria.

3. Animated Music, where the animation itself blends into the music, sometimes so seamlessly it's hard to even recognize it's happening. A good example would be my AMV Twist Of. Most people don't even recognize that nearly every explosion, firing of a missile, ship movement, etc is all synchronized into the beat of the music.

I consider the 3rd editing class to be the best. When you can make an AMV that does that, it'll completely change your perspective on everything you've ever seen before. There aren't many examples and a lot of times they get overlooked by people who can't get past Flash Bang effects, but the ones that do exist...simply amazing."

That's cause there wasn't enough substance to begin with. ^_^

I was actually lucky to make what I've got given what I had to work with. There was a lot of stuff I wanted to do but simply couldn't. On the whole, "Forever" was more of an experiment in extreme video editing techniques and because of that the "feel" of it got a lil lost. Most people who are kinda familiar with my work are waiting in anticipation for my "Lovers or Friends" CCS AMV, which goes for "feel" and extreme editing techniques (It'll be the first CCS AMV ever to actually have a fully animated kiss between Sakura and Li).

Don't get me wrong, I'd give you props for the effort put into it, but the final product isn't as "quallity" as many videos that consist of nothing more than straight cuts and fades/crossfades. Oh I agree, I think one of the most important factors in any AMV is how it kinda makes you feel on the whole. It's pretty subjective though. I mean a couple of my most favorite videos are Mirai MM's "For The Love Of Li" and Sephyre's "Goddess Of Inspiration", both of which don't really have any kind of digital effects at all.
